Xiaomi is determined to take on Samsung. It’s preparing a rival for the Galaxy Z Fold 3

The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is aware of the strong market potential for futuristic foldable devices and wants to compete with the leader – South Korean Samsung. They’re preparing a rival to the current flagship smartphone named Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is already officially being sold on the Slovak or Czech market.

Will it be competition for Samsung’s foldable smartphone?

Xiaomi already has real experience with foldable smartphones. Earlier this year, the company launched the Mi MIX Fold model, the first foldable smartphone in its lineup that resembled Samsung’s previous Galaxy Fold model. Now, a new report suggests that the Chinese manufacturer is already working on a new device MIX Fold. It should be a direct competitor to the latest model Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.

These information leaks were published by the Bald Panda profile (they were provided via the Android Authority portal). The upcoming foldable model should be more of an evolution, meaning an improvement over the original Mi MIX Fold. The upcoming MIX Fold 2, as the report labels it, will offer a high refresh rate for both the outer and inner displays. No 5000 mAh battery will be missing, and there will also be fast up to 120 W wired charging.

Here are the other expected specifications

The new MIX Fold should have on its front a "selfie" camera module hidden under the display surface. A similar feature has already been seen in the production version of the new smartphone Xiaomi MIX 4.

As for improvements over the original version—if they turn out to be true—they’re truly significant. Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold at the start of this year offered only 67 W charging, and a high refresh rate was available only on the external 6.5″ display.

At the moment, we don’t know the launch date, availability, or the selling price of this foldable smartphone. However, previous leaks suggested that Xiaomi’s foldable phone could appear on the market during the fourth quarter of 2021. Still, this is unofficial and unconfirmed information.
