Xiaomi is preparing its first “flip” phone: Here’s what the Xiaomi MIX Flip should look like

Foldable smartphones are extremely popular right now, and Xiaomi knows it too—it's preparing its first “flip” phone under the name Xiaomi MIX Flip. Here are the first leaked details we know.

Xiaomi keeps developing its other devices, including a flip smartphone Xiaomi MIX Flip. It will join the foldable MIX Fold 4, which—according to the latest info—should be exclusive to the Chinese market for now. But what about the new “Flip” smartphone?

Its development started back in 2021. The device received the codename “argo”, and initially it was supposed to be powered by the flagship chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. However, the Chinese tech giant decided to halt development of this model, and the latest internal MIUI build for its prototype was MIUI-V21.4.24. After a few years, though, this project is being revived once again.

Xiaomi MIX Flip is currently in internal testing, and we expect it to be officially announced as early as May. As reported by the GSMChina.com portal, it initially seemed to be preparation for a global MIX Fold 4 model. But that turns out not to be true—Mi Code has revealed information specifically about the “Flip” smartphone. It should also be available to global customers.

MIX Flip has model designations “2405CPX3DG / 2405CPX3DC”. The device’s code name is “ruyi” and the internal model number is “N8”. The internal number “8” is usually assigned to devices from the MIX series. The last device with internal number 8 was Xiaomi MIX 4. It was released under internal code “K8” and offered, for example, an in-display camera. However, it was sold only on the Chinese market, which surprised a lot of fans.

When it comes to specs, the MIX Flip will be a special model for Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer is working hard on a device that will leave no compromises. Inside, it should include a flagship processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and the back is expected to offer a dual-camera setup. We also have the first renders showing how the MIX Flip smartphone could look.

Since it will use a flip design, the dual camera on the back will also be paired with a secondary screen. You’ll use it mainly when using the smartphone in the folded state. The primary display—that is, the panel you look at after opening—should offer a “selfie” camera placed inside a cutout in the display.

Price and availability of the new flip smartphone

The new Xiaomi MIX Flip should be available not only in the Chinese market, but also in Turkey and other global markets. What we know so far suggests that the flip model won’t be launched in India, which makes it something of an exception. More details, including the retail price and the start of sales, will be announced at the manufacturer’s official press conference—probably in just a few weeks.
