Our favorite Chinese brand Xiaomi has officially unveiled a new generation of its popular fitness band, branded as Xiaomi Smart Band 9. It also includes a 60 Hz display, increased brightness up to 1200 nits, and 21 days on a single charge.
Xiaomi Smart Band 9: The AMOLED display has 60 Hz and brightness up to 1200 nits
Xiaomi has its Smart Band line, which is extremely popular among users—truly one of its top priorities. It’s currently more of an evolution of the previous eighth generation. With Xiaomi Smart Band 9, though, you can spot improvements in the design, including a ceramic edition, plus additional features.
The capsule-shaped body dimensions are 46.53 x 21.63 x 10.95 mm (15.8 grams) for the standard version, or 47.50 x 22.73 x 10.95 mm (22.4 grams) for the glossy ceramic edition. The display has a 1.62″ diagonal and a refresh rate of up to 60 Hz, which is not something you typically see on smartwatches. It also offers automatic brightness up to 1200 nits, a resolution of 490 x 192 pixels, and 2.5 protective glass layers.
Both the aluminum, as well as the ceramic edition, offer a wide range of interchangeable straps. These are bands of the same type, with a fast swapping system—just like the Smart Band 8. The band can also handle sports activity monitoring (over 150 sports), has 5 ATM water resistance, and includes a sensor for tracking heart rate, breathing, blood oxygen, and sleep.
The manufacturer claims that heart-rate measurement accuracy has been improved by up to 16 PR% year over year. Connectivity is handled by Bluetooth 5.4, the operating system is Xiaomi HyperOS with various apps and games, and the manufacturer’s app for pairing with your smartphone supports iOS 12 or newer, as well as Android 8.0 or newer.
It also includes a six-axis motion sensor (including an accelerometer and gyroscope), and there’s a new battery this year with a capacity of up to 233 mAh. As a result, battery life on a single charge has been extended to up to the final 21 days.
Price and availability of the new fitness band
Finally, it’s important to mention that this fitness band version, the Xiaomi Smart Band 9, is intended for the Chinese market. In that market, it will be sold in the base configuration starting from 249 Chinese yuan. That’s roughly about €31. In addition, you’ll also find plenty of accessories in the form of original straps, as well as limited-edition ceramic versions.
