The battery is one of the main parameters users consider when choosing a new smartphone. Here are a few tips on how to extend battery life so it lasts as long as possible.

What’s important when charging a smartphone?

An expert says that when charging a smartphone, it’s important in what order the charger, cable, and smartphone are connected. If you don’t follow the same order and reverse the steps, you could damage the phone’s battery.

When charging a smartphone, it’s ideal to first connect the cable to the adapter and then plug it into the smartphone. If you do it the other way around, you not only reduce the risk of electric shock to the electronic device, but you also significantly reduce the chance of electrocution.

According to several product designers 3C, there are many current electronic devices on the market that have charging protection, so even if the order is reversed, nothing should happen.

Certified accessories

Charging overnight is fine, but the accessory in question must be certified and work properly. Always use chargers and cables of the same brand, or those included directly in the box, and compatible with your smartphone.

Low temperature is key

It’s okay to charge and use your smartphone at the same time. However, the temperature should be moderate—ideally between 0 and 35 °C. The warmer the battery gets, the greater the risk it will develop problems.

Percentage range

Don’t leave your smartphone charging if it’s under 20%, and don’t leave it fully charged either. Ideally, keep it within a range of 20 to 80 % capacity. The expert says the smartphone shouldn’t be charged to 100 % and left to drain to 0 %. That’s why some companies include a limiter in their battery options, so the battery never reaches 100 %.

Extra modes

There are smartphone brands and models that have extra features, such as Optimized Battery Charging mode, which uses maximum charging power up to 80 %, and slows it down for the remaining 20 %. This protects battery health. Check if yours has it and don’t forget to activate it.

Switching between fast and slow charging

You should use the ultrafast charging feature in moderation, because frequent use can reduce battery health. Ideally, alternate this type of charging with a traditional, standard, slower charging method, and use fast charging only in case of need.
