The ceramic Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is Lei Jun’s most popular smartphone. A new generation is coming?

Smartphone development is currently advancing at rocket speed. With many changes and improvements, it’s mainly the “inside” of smartphones that has evolved—such as the processor, storage, or RAM—but the external design of phones is not falling behind.

All kinds of materials have alternated on the backs of mobile devices. The most common construction for a phone’s back is a combination of glass and plastic, but in more premium models we can sometimes even find gold or jewelry.

Mi MIX 2 – Lei Jun’s favorite

On the back of smartphones, in some models it has become a home for ceramics, as we can see in the case of the older Mi MIX 2.

This model found its place in the heart of Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi. Recently, he shared this information on his Weibo profile along with a photo you can see below.

The Mi MIX lineup was known mainly for its top-tier hardware and innovations not only in the display area.

Owners of these smartphones could enjoy the beautiful full-screen panels without distraction.

The arrival of a new generation?

All the new information suggests that a successor to the Mi MIX lineup could arrive sooner than you think.

This is also supported by the fact that Xiaomi only recently created a Weibo account dedicated exclusively to the Mi MIX series.

The Mi MIX smartphone lineup was not only top-tier in terms of hardware, but also—thanks to its overall high-quality build—ranked among premium models.

On his new Weibo profile, Lei Jun highlighted that the ceramic back of the smartphone is what he would also like to see on the next mobile devices in this series.

Based on this preference, we can assume that the new successor is absolutely not far away.

It’s very likely that the new Mi MIX will hit the market in the third or fourth quarter of year 2020. It’s expected to be called Mi MIX 4 or Mi MIX 2020 and to be made precisely from the popular ceramic.

According to preliminary estimates, we can look forward to a 120 Hz display with 2K resolution and an under-display selfie camera. This patent could already be seen in older Xiaomi smartphone videos, but it hasn’t been used in any of them yet.

The last product introduced as part of this smartphone lineup was the Mi MIX Alpha. A very interesting and innovative product concept, but not for the average owner.
