*Editorial note: Xiaomi Planet is a portal primarily focused on Xiaomi news, but it’s also very important to keep an eye on what the competition is doing. In the „Other manufacturers“ article category, you’ll find articles about competing devices.
The Chinese smartphone market is really huge, and you could even say it’s oversaturated. If a manufacturer wants to stand out, it has to bring something that others don’t offer. Xiaomi became the king of this, but from every side, news from the competition keeps rolling in—and it’s getting more and more interesting. Lenovo recently unveiled the very first smartphone in the world with a Snapdragon 855 – Lenovo Z5 Pro GT. Now it’s going on sale for a directly surprising price.
Snapdragon 855 for 350 € / 8950 CZK?!
Last month, Lenovo surprised the entire smartphone world. It announced the very first smartphone with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. But the surprises don’t stop there. Lenovo Z5 Pro GT goes into its first official sale today with an unbelievable price tag.
People in China can already pre-order it for 2698 yuan, which is, after conversion, a great 350 € / 8950 CZK. That price applies to the 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage version. There’s also a higher variant with 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage for 390 € / 9950 CZK. The 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage version will cost 440 € / 11 300 CZK. A very impressive pricing strategy.
Bezel-less AMOLED display and a retractable camera
Design-wise and concept-wise, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is very similar to Xiaomi’s Mi MIX 3. The front is made up of up to 95% by a Super AMOLED display with a 6.39″ diagonal and 2340 x 1080 px resolution. Unlike the MIX 3, the Lenovo flagship also includes an in-display fingerprint sensor.
The construction is retractable and works on a similar principle as in the case of the MIX 3. It slides out manually, and in the extended section there’s a dual front 16 MPx + 8 MPx camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a primary speaker grille, and an infrared face sensor.
372 000 points on AnTuTu
If you move around in the smartphone world, you surely know that Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is currently the most powerful mobile processor on the market. It has even outperformed Apple’s A11 chip, which held the top spot for a long time. High performance here is ensured by a 7 nm manufacturing process, 8 Kryo 485 cores clocked at 2.85 GHz, a 64-bit architecture, and the new Adreno 640 graphics chip.
The processor comes with Vulkan 1.1 technology and also Snapdragon Elite Gaming, which optimize performance for the most demanding games. For smooth multitasking, there’s 6 GB or 8 GB RAM depending on the version. A great gaming experience will be enhanced by stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound improvement.
Dual Sony camera and Android 9
We’re gradually moving to the back, which—besides the great-looking carbon cover—also includes a dual camera setup. The primary 24 MPx Sony IMX 576 sensor together with the secondary 16 MPx Sony IMX 519 sensor will take solid photos. Pixel size is 1.8 µm, aperture is f/1.8, video is recorded in 4K resolution, and AI and automatic PDAF focusing are also included.
All the hardware is powered by a 3350 mAh battery with fast charging support via a USB Type-C connector. On the software side, Lenovo Z5 Pro GT offers Android 9 Pie with its own ZUI10 interface overlay, known from the already-defunct ZUK smartphone brand’s subsidiary.
The package is rounded out with NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band WiFi with the 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac standard, and DualSIM functionality. The current Chinese version does not support the B20 LTE band (800 MHz), and it’s not yet known whether Lenovo will also launch this smartphone for the global market.
