POCO F9 Pro and POCO F9 Ultra have appeared in the GSMA certification database, bringing their official announcement much closer. At the same time, the leak revealed several interesting specs for the upcoming smartphones, suggesting that POCO wants to deliver an exceptionally capable competition even in the flagship class. The new devices are set to stand out with massive batteries, a 200 MPx camera, and an unusual AMOLED display with a high refresh rate.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 instead of the newer generation
Although there was initially speculation about using the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, current information points to the use of the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (SM8850). This is Qualcomm’s current flagship chip, powering today’s most high-performance smartphones.
The reason for this move is quite simple. POCO plans to launch the F9 series before the next generation of Qualcomm processors is introduced, so the manufacturer went with the currently most powerful available solution.
AMOLED display with a refresh rate up to 185 Hz
The display used is a big surprise. Both models are said to get an AMOLED panel from TCL with a refresh rate of up to 185 Hz. If this information is confirmed, it would be one of the highest values we’ve seen in smartphones so far.
The display will be complemented by an ultrasonic fingerprint reader built directly under the panel. Of course, there will also be support for fast charging with a power of 100 W via cable and 50 W wirelessly.
Huge batteries and a 200 MP camera
The biggest difference between the upcoming models will be the battery capacity. The POCO F9 Ultra, which is expected to be the global version of the upcoming Redmi K100 Pro Max, is reportedly set to get up to a 10,000 mAh battery. The POCO F9 Pro model is said to offer a battery capacity exceeding 8,000 mAh.
Both smartphones will also feature a main camera with a resolution of 200 MP and support for eSIM technology. So it seems Xiaomi will continue pushing high resolution even in future flagship models of the POCO brand.
The global launch is probably just a matter of time
The GSMA certification also confirms readiness for a release in multiple regions around the world. These include Europe, Türkiye, Indonesia, Russia, Taiwan, and Japan. That suggests that after the Chinese debut, a fairly quick global launch could follow.
For now, these are still unofficial reports based on certifications and leaks, so you should take them with a pinch of salt. However, if all the mentioned specs are confirmed, the POCO F9 Pro series could end up among next year’s most interesting flagship smartphones—thanks in large part to the combination of extreme endurance, top-tier performance, and very fast charging.
