The fact that Samsung in Europe swaps out its flagship processor Snapdragon for its own Exynos processor as a replacement is known for a few years now.
This move is criticized mainly because the Exynos processor usually doesn’t reach the kind of qualities you’d expect from the well-known Snapdragons.
The same situation repeats with the current flagship smartphone Galaxy S20+, which offers an Exynos 990 processor in Europe. It’s even worse than last year’s Snapdragon and it gets beaten by one test after another.
It gets beaten even by the cheap Redmi Note 8 Pro and the MediaTek processor
This time, even a MediaTek processor on a mid-range smartphone Redmi Note 8 Pro. beat it in a gaming comparison.
Samsung’s chip also received criticism because it couldn’t be competitive and deliver performance even when compared to last year’s Snapdragon model 855.
At first glance, it might not seem that bad, though another reveal came out.
The video released by a user named Chong Liu shows a gaming comparison of the Galaxy S20+ (Exynos 990) and a cheap mid-range smartphone Redmi Note 8 Pro (MediaTek Helio G90T).
From the same source, by the way, come the previous unsuccessful comparisons with the South Korean Exynos processor.
The gaming comparison demonstrates performance in a mobile game PUBG Mobile, where the more expensive flagship smartphone delivered only 50 frames per second after 10 minutes—then it dropped to just 40 frames per second after 20 minutes. This kind of drop wasn’t recorded even by a several-times-cheaper Redmi smartphone.

Exynos 990 as the current model is once again fighting for sustained performance under the graphical pressure of a more demanding 3D game.
It’s precisely the long-lasting performance that’s being criticized for Samsung’s Exynos chipset. The video continues to show just how bad this situation is. As a cheap smartphone, the Redmi Note 8 Pro simply offers a better gaming experience.
An important factor is the price
