We have the first info about a newly prepared series of models from Xiaomi. They’ll be based on the Xiaomi 12 series, but will come with the T badge. It looks like the launch isn’t too far off, and it won’t be a completely original model.
Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro are on the way
The Xiaomi T series has always been cheaper than the models it was based on, but despite that it still delivered high performance, a slightly different design, and also quality cameras. The biggest difference was probably the lack of wireless charging.
As the Xiaomiui portal managed to find out, the Xiaomi 12T series will most likely be based on an as-yet-unannounced Redmi model—specifically the Redmi K50S model, which should also be unveiled in its Pro version.
In the IMEI database, smartphones with the code names mayflay and dish appeared. These code names are the same for Redmi K50S and K50S Pro smartphones intended for the Chinese market, as well as for Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro smartphones, which would be aimed at the global market.
| Model number | Model | Code name | Commercial name | Region |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 22081212C | L12 | mayfly | Redmi K50S Pro | China |
| 22071212AC | L12A | plate | Redmi K50S | China |
| 22071212AG | L12A | plate | Xiaomi 12T | Global |
| 22081212UG | L12U | mayfly | Xiaomi 12T Pro Hypercharge | Global |
| 22081212G | L12 | mayfly | Xiaomi 12T Pro | Global |
| 22081212R | L12 | mayfly | Xiaomi 12T Pro | Japan |
It’s not clear yet when we might get these smartphones, but it’s expected sometime between August and October. We assume the first to be announced will be the Redmi models for the Chinese market, followed by rebranded Xiaomi models for the global market as well.
Once again, likely MediaTek and Qualcomm
As for the chipsets, we expect this year’s generation to stick to the same approach: the cheaper Xiaomi 12T will use a MediaTek processor, while the more expensive one will be equipped with a Qualcomm chip.
The Xiaomi 12T Pro model will most likely get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. At the time, it won’t be the most powerful chipset on the market, but it will still deliver massive performance for everything.
