Just a week ago, together with the presentation of the new Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, Xiaomi unveiled its first transparent TV. It’s a Smart TV Xiaomi Mi TV Lux, probably the most interesting Smart TV on the market and in its own category.
Xiaomi’s transparent Smart TV
The new Smart TV Xiaomi Mi TV Lux is the result of years of research. According to the company, creating the first transparent OLED TV was no easy task. It involved very slow and precise work, which eventually saw the light of day commercially as well.
Creating a completely transparent panel brought countless challenges. Starting with the fact that all the hardware components that are usually built into the back of the TV behind the screen had to be moved into an additional lower section.
As a result, the Xiaomi Mi TV Lux stores all electronic components in the lower part of the main panel. Of course, localizing them in this area was yet another challenge when it comes to the heat dispersion they generate.
Besides the hardware components, the Xiaomi Mi TV Lux consists of a 55-inch glass panel covered with a metal frame to ensure greater durability of the entire TV.
Not quite transparent
But how is it possible to display an image on transparent glass? The truth is that this panel isn’t as transparent as it might seem. More precisely, it’s divided into two parts. The first part is a fully transparent display area. The second is a layer made up of tiny pixels that are almost invisible to the human eye.
Thanks to the fact that these pixels have reduced dimensions and the connection between them is practically nonexistent, it’s possible they’ll go completely unnoticed when the TV is turned fully off.
In short, the Xiaomi Mi TV Lux is quasi a normal TV. With hardware placed at the bottom of the construction, while the pixels are so small that they’re almost hidden from the human eye—this TV makes a unique product.
Xiaomi explained the new technology behind this TV quite simply. Taking into account all the research and development that had to go into creating this amazing transparent TV, it really is admirable.
