After three long years of development, Xiaomi finally showed us its flagship smartphone at its big summer conference: Xiaomi Mi MIX 4. It introduced a solution for the front selfie camera, which is hidden under the display. On Weibo, a video surfaced showing this smartphone being completely taken apart and revealing what’s inside.
Unibody construction
On the Chinese social network Weibo, a user named Geekbar Zhang You posted a video showing the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 smartphone being disassembled in a grey ceramic version. It reveals various components and the secrets of this smartphone.
What Xiaomi impressed with was the unibody construction of the entire back cover, which also includes the side frames. This gives the company much higher durability than if the frame and back cover were separate. Between the display and the ceramic part there’s a thin metal frame that hides the antennas.
Inside, things get more interesting
The author points out that the mainboard uses a three-tier structure. The top section contains the processor, the camera, internal storage, and an antenna for UWB. In the middle section, we see a wireless charging coil that also works as an NFC antenna, the battery, which is split into two cells, and in the bottom part there’s a built-in speaker, a vibration motor, USB-C, and other modules.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 uses DDR5 RAM memory from Samsung, internal storage from SK Hynix, and the battery was made by Dongguan New Energy.
On the back, you’ll find three cameras. A 108-megapixel main camera with a Samsung HMX sensor with optical stabilization. Then there’s a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a focal length of 12 mm. Finally, there’s a 8-megapixel periscope lens that supports 5-x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and a focal length of 120 mm.
