Xiaomi 12 is expected to come with a very unconventional design of the rear camera module

Not long ago, Xiaomi held a big summer conference where it introduced its most well-equipped smartphone, the Xiaomi MIX 4. Now, a future flagship model with the label Xiaomi 12 is again coming into the spotlight.

2K display from Samsung and the latest Snapdragon

Xiaomi has released a statement that it is ending the Mi branding on its smartphones to unify their names across all retail markets. You can read more about their reasons in our detailed article.

From previous reports, we already learned that Xiaomi will use the latest yet-to-be-released Snapdragon 898 processor in its upcoming flagship. The Xiaomi 12 will also impress with its display.

It will be supplied by Korean Samsung, bring 2K resolution, a 120-hertz refresh rate, and the expected LTPO technology that will intelligently adjust this refresh rate depending on the content being shown.

Design of the rear camera module

After going around on social media, a rumor started spreading that allegedly shows the rear camera module of a Xiaomi 12 smartphone in development. The module has an unconventional shape resembling the letter “M”. You can see 4 camera lenses and an illumination LED diode there.

It’s located in the middle of the upper part. Until now, we’ve been used to Xiaomi placing the camera module on the left side of the back panel. Nothing like this has been seen on any other smartphone either. Again, this should be a recognizable feature, so the Xiaomi 12 model would quickly stand out on the street and be distinguishable from other smartphones.

According to speculation, the main sensor should have a resolution of up to 200 MPx. At the same time, keep in mind that this is not an official Xiaomi 12 design—it’s only a render. We’ll still need to wait some time for the final product.

But it’s interesting to see that lately more and more information has been coming out—and it’s only going to keep increasing until its official launch sometime in the beginning of next year.
