Around the new POCO brand, things have been pretty busy lately. After all, the manufacturer is expected to introduce its first devices soon. One of the unofficially confirmed smartphones is the POCO X2, which will be a rebranded model of the Redmi K30 4G.
New findings thanks to an unexpected accident
Thanks to the helpful and observant members of the Polish community MIUIPolska, the Chinese version of the Redmi K30 4G smartphone with 8GB RAM and 256 GB storage has come into their hands. The new owner asked them to upload the official software from Xiaomi.
Nothing unusual about that, but after launching the smartphone with the original software, a ROM (a software package) labeled V11.0.2.0.QGHINXM was installed on it.
The name suggests the MIUI 11.0.2 version intended for the Indian market, which also wouldn’t mean anything. It only became interesting after the guys noticed the device model, POCO X2. The software was likely installed by a Chinese seller in an attempt to port the global operating system version.
The original Chinese software version, however, is hard to use in Europe because it lacks support for regional settings and Google services.
Thanks to this coincidence, the rumors that one of the upcoming POCO smartphones will be the renamed Redmi K30 4G were unofficially confirmed. Members of the Polish community decided to investigate the “treasure” they got and shared their findings on their pages.
As for the design and build of the new POCO X2, there’s, of course, no information on that yet, and we’ll probably only get it with the official launch. The information comes only from a specific software version, but it doesn’t have to be final, since some important features are missing there.
One of the strangest facts enthusiasts found when using this version is that the POCO X2 cannot enable a higher screen refresh rate (120 Hz). This is despite the fact that the original Redmi K30 4G supports this refresh-rate setting up to 120 Hz.
On this specific phone, that kind of option simply doesn’t exist. If that option were missing in the final version of the POCO X2, it would be truly disappointing.
Another missing feature is the activation of the NFC module for contactless payments. This lack could also be caused by the software not being a final version. NFC support is confirmed, however, by one of the files found in the software package.
Since this particular model behaves software-wise like an unreleased POCO X2, the default environment is the POCO Launcher.
The examined software wasn’t among the newest
As we mentioned, the build is labeled with the number V11.0.2.0.QGHINXM and has security patches from November / December 2019. Some changes related to POCO X2 might not have been part of this ROM yet, and the final version may include NFC support and 120 Hz display refresh-rate support. To verify this information, you have to wait for the official Indian premiere of the device.
Official updates about the arrival of the new POCO smartphone
According to the latest official reports that came out just a few hours ago, the new POCO-branded smartphone will be unveiled in February / 2020. It was stated by the POCO India company director, Chandolu Manmohan.
According to his comments, the company will start selling the smartphone first via online retail and later will also move into other sales formats.
It’s still unclear what the new smartphone will be called and how many of them will ultimately hit the market in the near future. The previously mentioned POCO X2 is already in the mix, but also POCO F2, and even POCO F2 Lite. There’s talk of a release in the Indian market, and no one has confirmed global versions of the POCO smartphone yet.
