The launch of the new generation of the Xiaomi Mi MIX smartphone, as well as the Mi 9 Pro or the MIUI 11 system, is coming fast. The closer we get to the announcement, the more official information we learn about the upcoming new products.
On its Weibo account, Xiaomi has once again shared several new details — this time specifically about the anticipated Mi MIX smartphone.
Mi MIX 4 = Alpha
Today, the manufacturer revealed the official name of the fourth generation of its premium Mi MIX line. It won’t be Mi MIX 4, as we’ve been thinking all along. The new model will be called Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha. This is revealed by two teasers that have been posted.
Xiaomi explains the choice of name with the following statement:
„Three years ago, we introduced the concept of the Xiaomi Mi MIX mobile phone with a bezel-less display, bringing smartphones into the era of “full screen”. The MIX series represents Xiaomi research that stands at the beginning of the 5G era; we return to the original goal and once again explore the future of mobile phones. This time, we will name the new MIX as “Alpha”, based on the first letter of the Greek alphabet—and it also represents the original version used in the development of software applications.“
Curved display
As we can see in the image above, the Mi MIX Alpha will be equipped with a curved display, almost all the way to the back. It will probably be a “waterfall display,” which is currently a popular trend among manufacturers. The same kind of display was introduced with the latest Huawei Mate 30 Pro or Vivo Nex 3.
Even though the photo gives the impression that it might be a foldable smartphone that Xiaomi demonstrated back in January / ledna this year, that won’t be the case. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that there is no foldable smartphone in the image.
The curved “waterfall display” is also confirmed by the leaked photo, which you can see above. It’s a photo from the event website for the launch, which will take place on 24. September / September.
