This year, Xiaomi decided that after a long time, it will also delight fans of the Mi MIX series. Besides a new smartphone, a tablet is set to be introduced as well.
Return of the Mi MIX series
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 smartphone hit the market in early 2019. By the end of February, it will be 2 years since it saw the light of day, but its success wasn’t as big as the company may have expected. Alongside the standard model, a 5G version also appeared a month later in the form of the Mi MIX 3 5G.
Back then, it was still one of the most expensive smartphones in Xiaomi’s portfolio. To this day, it’s not sold for the lowest price, and it could even compete with some last year’s flagships. Since 2019, we’ve been able to see and hear various leaks and renders, but we still don’t have a full-fledged successor.
Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha, which was something of an experiment by the company, showed up to us last year. It was a smartphone that became known mainly for its curved display.
That display covered not only the front and side edges, but extended all the way to the back. Only a limited number of units were made, with the official price exceeding 2 000 €.
Besides the smartphone, a tablet is coming too
However, we now have new information again that is no longer just speculation from leakers. The company itself has said that this year will bring the rightful successor to the series in the form of Mi MIX 4. But it won’t be only a smartphone—it will also be a tablet, which should be a similarly big step forward.
As for the tablet, we currently have no information at all, including the name. After all, it’s probably still too early, and we’ll have to wait for Xiaomi to share details. Details about the Mi MIX 4 are practically at the same level—so we don’t know anything about it.
From Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun, we only know that both devices will be shown to us sometime in the second half of this year. The exact date hasn’t been set yet.
In the past, we also had hints about Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold devices, which were supposed to compete with Samsung and Huawei in the field of foldable devices. But that likely won’t be a reality.
