Xiaomi brings a new gadget to MIUI 12: Partial Screenshot Editor

Xiaomi is bringing, within its graphics overlay labeled MIUI 12, a practical partial screenshot editor.

It will be integrated directly into the system, just as the user video showed via the portal xda-developers.com.

New features in MIUI 12

The latest Android OS overlay version from Xiaomi – MIUI 12 – was officially unveiled at the beginning of this year at an event in China. During the event, Xiaomi highlighted some of the new features included in the latest software update.

These new features include many functions, including new animations, navigation gestures, live wallpapers, privacy protection features, etc. Since then, Xiaomi has released an updated “beta” version of MIUI 12 for several devices and even rolled out a few updates with additional new features.

These include features such as support for navigation gestures in the MIUI Camera app, a new Magic Clone feature, and now also a partial screenshot editor.

Partial Screenshot Editor

The new partial screenshot editor was recently spotted via a forum member on the site xda-developers.com, specifically in version MIUI 12 20.5.25.

As you can see in the attached video below, the new partial screenshot editor will allow, as the name suggests, to outline part of the screen image by drawing the appropriate shape around the area whose crop you need.

The video suggests that the new partial screenshot editor can be launched by a long press of the Home button, which will display a floating environment of the new graphic editor at the top of the screen.

Editing options

The editor provides access to three editing options via a menu in the top-right corner. You can use them to draw any shape, a rectangle, or a circle around the area you need to capture in the screenshot.

After drawing the shape according to your selection, the chosen area will be highlighted and you’ll get options to capture again, share the screenshot, edit the screenshot, or save it to your photo gallery.

If you’re not satisfied with your selection, there’s also the option to edit by swiping on either side of the highlighted area. As mentioned, this new partial screenshot editor was released as part of version MIUI 12 20.5.25 (nightly release) and should be available on any device with that version.
