Already at the beginning of July, we informed you that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 smartphone may be available only for the domestic Chinese market. This information seems very likely. It was also confirmed by the Xiaomi Public Relations office.
Exclusive for the domestic market
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will be a truly unique smartphone for Xiaomi. Xiaomi will put the best it can currently produce into it — we’re talking about selfie camera technology hidden under the display, or the use of a 200-megapixel sensor. The design was revealed on a poster, and we’ll really get the thing we’ve been dreaming about for years. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will have minimal bezels, and its display won’t be “decorated” with any notch or hole-punch cutout.
Agatha Thang, Xiaomi’s Public Relations manager, says that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 smartphone will be exclusively available only to people living in China. For many potential buyers, this news is a huge disappointment.
Maybe it’s already that aforementioned under-display selfie camera tech — and Xiaomi is apparently worried that, due to the complexity and high cost of producing this component, it wouldn’t be able to meet demand for a smartphone so incredibly well-equipped. On the global market, its price tag would go up by VAT, shipping costs, and other fees.
Same situation as with the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold
It’s not out of the question that, over time, this smartphone might also reach us. For now, we’ll have to make do with offerings from international sellers — for example TradingShenzhen, which also sells the Mi MIX Fold that you can’t get elsewhere. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s available.

We could see a similar situation back in April, when Xiaomi showed the world its first foldable smartphone. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold also didn’t make it outside China for the global market, and it seems Xiaomi isn’t planning to take this step either. Let’s see how it goes with the next generation.
