The well-known DxOMark camera test bringing together a French research team focused this time on evaluating the camera of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone. Based on extensive photo tests, Redmi Note 8 Pro achieved a total score of 84 points.
Megapixels aren’t everything
In the ranking, Redmi Note 8 Pro placed among phones such as the Samsung Galaxy A50 or Black Shark 2. It slightly lagged behind the older model like Xiaomi Mi Note 3, or the newer Motorola Moto One Zoom.

In the photo section, Redmi Note 8 Pro scored a total of 87 points. Strong points turned out to be autofocus, bokeh effect, and exposure levels. However, DxOMark testers also found areas for improvement. Despite the high-resolution sensor, the images showed a lack of fine detail.
They particularly criticized shooting in typical indoor conditions. The ultra-wide mode has good coverage of the field of view, but here too the level of detail and dynamic range was criticized.
In the video evaluation, Redmi Note 8 Pro got a weak 78 points, which placed it near the bottom of the DxOMark ranking. The videos recorded with this device were rated fairly well, as long as they were made in good lighting conditions.
In low-light scenes, white balance was missing, and the criticism also went to an unstable exposure level. A low level of detail was also called out for videos in quality 4K.
You have to consider the price
Even though DxOMark found room for improvement, it emphasizes that Redmi Note 8 Pro offers a fairly solid photography performance. Especially considering that its price tag is just slightly above 200 EUR.
Therefore, it isn’t suitable to compare it with other flagship smartphones, whose prices are several times higher.
