MIUI is the software interface MIUI that Xiaomi and Redmi use in their phones and tablets, and it’s one of the most popular. Developers are trying to integrate the newest features into the interface as quickly as possible.
It often happens that MIUI users enjoy features from the latest version of the Android operating system even though that version hasn’t been released yet.
MIUI gets a new piece of the graphical interface
However, MIUI hasn’t had one part of Android’s graphical interface for a long time. That has now changed. As early as June this year, we reported that developers are planning to integrate the so-called „App Drawer“ — a menu with apps — into the MIUI software environment.
Up until now, Xiaomi has avoided this option and apps were displayed directly on the home screens. But users have successfully demanded an apps menu.
Now Xiaomi has officially confirmed on the Chinese social network Weibo that the new feature is included in the latest stable version of MIUI 11 in China. All users need to do is update the MIUI Launcher system app.
So we can expect that with the latest update of the software interface, we’ll get this improvement for the global software versions in our region as well. We’ll just add that the feature isn’t integrated in the first MIUI 11 version.
On our editorial Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, we already have the official MIUI 11 with Android 10, and the App Drawer isn’t there yet.
What is an App Drawer?
Many of you already know this feature and we described it in detail in our June article. It literally is an app drawer that collects all apps and games on your phone. You can access it either by tapping the App Drawer button on the home screen, or via a default gesture. Usually it’s swiping your finger up from the bottom edge.
The advantage of this feature is that users can more effectively customize the number and content of the home screens, because there are no apps on them. Instead, everything is neatly collected in the drawer in alphabetical view.
The advantage of MIUI is that the older way of displaying apps without an App Drawer is still available, which especially conservative users will appreciate.
