Fitness bands from the Mi Band series have truly become a popular alternative for basic fitness feature tracking, heart rate, or sleep, especially thanks to their low price. In the editorial office, we also tested the previous generation, the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, which also broke sales records.
The manufacturer is already preparing the fifth generation of the popular band called Mi Band 5, and in several media outlets the first published photos have already leaked. However, as time has passed, it has turned out that these are counterfeits.
Photos are fake
Even at first glance, the new band’s equipment, the Mi Band 5, looked quite suspicious. At its low price, according to the available photos it should offer a much larger display with minimal bezels—and even a modern cutout for the control element.
Despite this equipment, several media outlets were claiming the images were real. A reliable source from Xiaomishka on Twitter, however, marked these photos as fake.
It’s not just the suspiciously tempting specs—the real issue was also the watermark, which revealed the photo was fake.
The silicone band and the overall outlines of the device don’t look completely unrealistic, but we can’t say for sure what the display will look like, its size, and we also don’t know the technical specifications of the upcoming band.
What we can say for sure is that the published photos are not real shots of the upcoming band. So we’ll have to wait for further information leaks resp. for the actual unveiling by the Chinese manufacturer.
