The Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is entering Europe, but not through official sales of its products. We’ve had them here for a long time. The manufacturer will also produce its products on the old continent.
A new Xiaomi factory in Turkey
Production will be located in the factory in Turkey. Its area is 14 thousand square meters, and it was put into operation in cooperation with Salcomp, a company known for making smartphone accessories as well as other products. The factory’s annual production capacity is 5 million smartphones.
About 2000 people will find work there, the investment in the factory was at the level of 30 million dollars. One of the main goals of the Chinese company is to become part of the regions where it sells its products. And that is by creating added value in the form of the production itself.
Smartphones are already being made in Turkey
Turkey is the fourth country where Xiaomi will manufacture. A big advantage is its strategic location at the junction of Europe and Asia. If you somehow didn’t know, the company opened its first retail store in 2018 in Turkey.
The goal of the investment is also to contribute to the country’s economic development. In addition, more Chinese manufacturers are planning to officially enter the Turkish market – Tecno and Oppo. In Turkey, South Korean Samsung is also producing, which is still the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer.
Successful sales of Xiaomi smartphones in Europe
Xiaomi is doing exceptionally well in the European market and, in terms of sales, it’s recording one even better year after another. Consumers appreciate the excellent price/performance ratio, the clever MIUI user interface, and the availability of flagship models.
The company is significantly active, for example in the Spanish market, but even here in Slovakia, Xiaomi smartphones are among the best-sellers. The new factory will also make a major impact on the speed of smartphone deliveries to Europe. Turkey will be a kind of “bridge” between Europe and China.
Besides speeding up deliveries to Europe, shipments should also be accelerated to other places—especially African and less developed countries. Xiaomi clearly means it seriously with its expansion.
