Just a few days from now, we’ll be seeing a press conference from the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi, along with a new and premium flagship smartphone Xiaomi 12S Ultra. It will replace the originally announced Xiaomi 12 Ultra, and here’s why the naming change happened.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra: The Xiaomi 12S series will bring a new Snapdragon processor
The company Xiaomi only recently revealed the date of its upcoming event, which will take place on July 4, 2022. At this event, we’ll most likely see a new flagship smartphone series Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro, as well as the long-awaited Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
And the last-mentioned model has been part of leaked information for several months already, but under a different name—namely Xiaomi 12 Ultra. According to a new report, however, the original model was canceled and fully replaced by a new one from the “S” series.
CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, also commented on this situation: said
“The Xiaomi 12 Ultra was supposed to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, and its release was originally planned for March or April, but that release was canceled. In an effort to deliver a better experience, we upgraded the chip to Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Qualcomm and Leica have been refining the camera and software for several months, and thanks to that, we’ll get an even better experience with the 12S Ultra model.”
The 12 Ultra model, as a direct successor to the Xiaomi 11 Ultra device, won’t arrive. However, the spiritual successor should be the model 12S Ultra. It will, though, include the vast majority of the features we expect from the Ultra model.
Here are the expected technical specifications for Xiaomi 12S Ultra
When it comes to the technical specifications, we expect a 6,7″ AMOLED display with Quad HD+ resolution, LTPO technology, and a high refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The mentioned processor Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, will also be there—along with 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 512 GB of fast UFS 3.1 internal storage.
In addition, the package also includes a trio of powerful cameras developed in cooperation with the German company Leica. The main camera should have a resolution of 50 MPx. This sensor will be complemented by a 48 MPx ultra-wide sensor, as well as a 48 MPx periscope telephoto lens. The cameras should also be supported by automatic laser autofocus and a depth ToF sensor.
The smartphone should come with the operating system Android 12, along with the manufacturer’s custom interface MIUI 13. The battery capacity is expected to top out at 4800 mAh. And it shouldn’t miss out on fast 67 W wired charging or 50 W fast wireless charging. At the same event, a new laptop should also be unveiled—Xiaomi Book Pro 2022.
