November sales: Amazfit X smartwatches with a futuristic design and a curved AMOLED display

In August 2019, Huami unveiled new smartwatch models at a press conference, including the unique Amazfit X concept.

The concept of curved smartwatches has finally turned into reality, and the manufacturer has started selling it.

Innovative curved design – that’s Amazfit X

Let’s take a look at the specifications of the Amazfit X watches, unveiled as the future of smartwatches. Huami invested a significant amount of money into their development, and they were originally supposed to hit the market in the first half of 2020. Production is more demanding than the company thought, so the watches are delayed.

The most noticeable feature of the Amazfit X is, of course, their display. It’s a curved flexible display with a 2.07-inch diagonal. The layer of glass covering the screen is curved at 92°. The height difference between the highest and lowest points of the display is up to 12.5 mm.

This curvature was achieved using a 3D hot bending process. At temperatures of up to 700°C, this process was repeated up to six times to achieve the desired result.

Larger display area

The watches have a moon-like shape, which allows for a larger display area while keeping compact dimensions. Huami’s engineers calculated that the display area is up to 244 % larger than on other wearables with similar dimensions.

The AMOLED display delivers great resolution with a pixel density of 326 PPI, 100% color reproduction (NTSC), and a brightness level of 430 nits.

New elements inside the watch too

Besides the new curved display, Amazfit X also includes new elements inside. The entire device is divided into three parts, and each of them has its own section of the main board.

Thanks to this technology, the thickness of the device could be reduced to the minimum, because there was no need to place any uncurved component into the device.

The battery in the Amazfit X has a capacity of 220 mAh and should provide about 7 days of battery life on a single charge. The watches feature an all-metal body with hidden electronic buttons, creating a clean and luxurious look.
