According to analysts at IDC, phone memory is currently about 350 % more expensive than a year ago, and smartphones in shops since the start of 2026 have gone up by an average of 20 %. Manufacturers are dealing with it in two ways: either they raise the price, or they put less memory and weaker hardware into the new model. That’s why it’s worth checking out the POCO F8 Pro, which was released even before this price-hike wave and comes with Snapdragon 8 Elite, 12 GB of fast RAM, and UFS 4.1 storage. With our coupon it costs 422 €. But in the Spanish warehouse, there are already only the last 15 units left.
Why new phones are getting more expensive while being worse equipped
Chip manufacturers have shifted a big part of production to memory for artificial-intelligence servers, so there’s less RAM and storage left for phones, and at a much higher price. IDC reports that in the third quarter of 2026 manufacturers shipped to stores 22 % fewer smartphones than a year earlier, the biggest drop they’ve ever measured. Xiaomi, meanwhile, shipped 29.2 % fewer phones and, according to Counterpoint, would rather limit the cheapest models than sell them at a loss. We broke it down in detail in the article about the biggest smartphone market crash.
According to TrendForce, DRAM contract prices rose in the second quarter of 2026 by 80 %, in the third by another 40 %, and by the end of the year the company expects another 20 %. Counterpoint calculated that in a phone up to 200 dollars, memory already accounts for 43 % of the price of all components, and in more expensive models today the RAM is more expensive than the processor itself. That’s why Xiaomi in China raised the price of the base Xiaomi 17 twice over the summer, from 4 499 to 5 099 yuan (roughly from 602 to 682 €).
Where the price can’t be increased, manufacturers cut from the specs. For Europe, Xiaomi removed the 18 Ultra model and in China it launched the Redmi Note 17 Pro New Edition, which has up to 8 GB RAM instead of 12 GB, plus a 6 GB version as well. The F8 Pro successor got a cut-down Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 “V” with a smaller graphics unit. According to Xiaomi’s comparison, it’s about 10 % weaker in AnTuTu than the full version. In the UK, POCO F9 Pro at launch cost 250 pounds (roughly 300 €) more than the F8 Pro. Analysts say it probably won’t get better in 2027 either, since Counterpoint expects the market to recover only at the end of the year.
Only the last 15 units from the Spanish warehouse
POCO F8 Pro is sold by a verified seller on DHgate, with whom we’ve been working long-term. The phone ships from the Spanish warehouse, so you’ll get it in about 5 days; shipping is free and you don’t pay extra customs duty or VAT. It’s the global version with Slovak language, Google services, NFC payments, and eSIM. The seller also includes a 2-year warranty. You won’t get a charger in the box, and you can also pay via Google Pay directly in euros.
According to the warehouse status from October 23, the seller still has 12 units of the blue version 12 + 256 GB, 2 units of gray 12 + 256 GB, and the only unit of the gray 12 + 512 GB. The seller doesn’t restock new units, and since POCO is already selling the new F9 generation, we think the F8 Pro will disappear completely from the lineup once it sells out. At launch in November 2025 it had a recommended price of 649.90 € in Germany, so with our coupon you can get it today for over 200 € less.

On the memory module—whose price is growing the fastest today—POCO didn’t skimp
POCO F8 Pro comes with 12 GB RAM LPDDR5X running at 9 600 Mb/s and storage UFS 4.1 in 256 or 512 GB capacity. Right now, RAM and storage are the most expensive parts of the phone, which is why in new models at this price manufacturers offer less. Performance is handled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite made on a 3 nm process, and POCO claims 3.28 million points in AnTuTu.
In our comparison with the pricier POCO F8 Ultra, we found that the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in the Ultra only leads in synthetic tests, while in games the difference is practically unnoticeable. During one hour of gaming with maximum details, the F8 Pro stayed at 60 fps according to the manufacturer and warmed up to 41.8 °C.
Display with brightness 3 500 nits and a battery for 1 600 cycles
The AMOLED display has a diagonal of 6,59 inches, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 3 500 nits, so it’s easy to see even in direct sunlight. The panel has a full RGB subpixel structure and DC dimming, which doesn’t flicker at low brightness. Under the display is an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader that can handle even a slightly damp finger.
The battery has a capacity of 6 210 mAh and, according to POCO, after 1 600 charging cycles it will retain at least 80% of its capacity. You can charge via cable with 100 W, so going from 1 to 100% takes roughly 37 minutes. However, you’ll need to buy the adapter separately or use the one you already have at home.
A telephoto lens that cheaper phones skip
The main camera uses a 50 MP Light Fusion 800 sensor with a 1/1.55-inch size and optical stabilization. Next to it there is a 50 MP telephoto lens with 2.5× optical zoom and an 8 MP ultrawide camera. You can record video up to 8K at 30 fps or 4K at 60 fps.
F8 Pro also has its weak points: it lacks wireless charging, the ultrawide camera with low 8 MP for night shots falls behind, and the USB-C port transfers data at only USB 2.0. The body weighs 199 g and is 8 mm thick, though it has an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass 7i, and IP68 resistance.
