Ridiculous 300-watt charging from Redmi is set to enter mass production soon

Redmi is reportedly planning to push charging speed up another level. According to leaked information, we should see support for up to 300-watt charging in the near future.

So far, Redmi offered the highest charging power at 210 W, which came with the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition model. That meant a full battery in 9 minutes.

A smartphone charged in just 5 minutes

But the Digital Chat Station insider came with the info that 300-watt charging for Redmi smartphones is coming soon. Recently, we saw a small experiment directly from Redmi.

The company slightly revised the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ model, which has a battery capacity of 4 100 mAh. Here it used 290 W of power, which is close to the 300 W target.

In practice, this meant that with a 50 % battery, the smartphone would reach in just 2 minutes, and it would be fully charged in only about five minutes.

This super fast charging tech with 300 W output is the result of an innovative design and new materials—from the charger to the smartphone’s charging architecture, all the way to the battery.

4th generation of GaN technology

The charger uses 4th generation GaN technology. It’s the same size as Xiaomi’s previous 210-watt charger, but it brings a 43% increase in power and reaches a power density of 2.31 W/cm³.

To handle such power, a custom chip has been added to solve the issue of excessive current heating along the charging input path and to reduce the rise in charging temperature from the source.

The charging pumps are arranged in a decentralized way to prevent excessive heat buildup in one place. This allows for maximum power for longer than 2 minutes.

Being able to fully charge your smartphone in just five minutes could also have effects on other devices, such as laptops and electric vehicles.
