A popular American YouTube channel labeled JerryRigEverything tested the current Chinese flagship smartphones again. This is how Xiaomi 12 Pro and OnePlus 10 Pro performed in an extreme durability test.

A durability test that Zack Nelson on his YouTube channel really doesn’t hold back on real smartphones. The new Xiaomi 12 Pro is undoubtedly, as one of the latest models, a representative of premium design and the latest-generation hardware lineup. However, Zack compares this smartphone with an equally premium OnePlus 10 Pro, and tests its screen durability, flame resistance, but also its overall build.

From a direct comparison of these devices, it’s clear which of the two is at least a bit less fragile. Yes, it’s OnePlus—i.e., a flagship model that suffered significant damage, especially to the phone’s glass back. The Xiaomi 12 Pro durability test was a bit better, and despite the odd sounds coming from inside the device, the smartphone survived as a functioning unit, with no major damage.

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, an aluminum body, and a surprising result

Both Chinese smartphones, however, have identical dimensions, curved AMOLED displays, and practically the same materials. The display on the Xiaomi phone is protected by a protective glass—Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

That protective glass is still glass though, so scratches will start to appear at the sixth step of the Mohs hardness scale. What’s nice is the integrated optical fingerprint sensor, which reads your fingerprint without any problem even through numerous scratches.

The frame around the edges, as well as the hardware buttons Xiaomi 12 Pro, are made of aluminum. For the back cover, the manufacturer used matte glass with a coarse texture. Even so, you can still damage this glass mechanically—but the effect on the competing OnePlus was even more noticeable, thanks to the glossy finish on the back.

The flame test affected the AMOLED screen for about 30 seconds, and then created a permanent white spot with no way back. Still, this is a standard feature of these panels—not a surprise. However, despite the mild damage, Zack rated the Xiaomi smartphone testing very positively and better than the OnePlus model, which is sold in a similar price category.
