The first benchmarks of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship processor show massive performance. It was tested on a Xiaomi smartphone

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor is among the current top-tier chipsets used in Android smartphones. Its successor has been spotted in popular benchmarks.

We’re talking about the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. So it seems we won’t be getting a + variant this year — Qualcomm will jump to the next number instead.

Tested in popular benchmarks

A new leak reveals scores achieved by this new processor in the well-known benchmark Geekbench 6 and AnTuTu. We can already say that when it comes to performance, it will be right at the top again.

Specifically, in the GeekBench 6 benchmark, the smartphone scored 2 563 in single-core and 7 256 in multi-core. This result is currently overshadowing even the iPhone 14 Pro Max with Apple A16 Bionic.

In AnTuTu, it even reached 1 712 271 points, bringing us closer to the two-million mark. That’s a solid jump — the currently most powerful Android smartphone scores around 1.3 million points.

At the moment, a lot is being said that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be based on TSMC’s 4-nanometer manufacturing process. At the same time, it will power flagships in roughly the second half of this year.

However, it’s not only about maximum performance, because first of all it needs to be cooled properly to prevent overheating. Qualcomm also has to ensure that the new processor is power-efficient, which will lead to better battery life on a single charge.

Interestingly, this processor was tested on a Xiaomi smartphone. We don’t know which model it could be — the Xiaomi 14 lineup is in the running, or the allegedly upcoming Xiaomi MIX 5.

MediaTek is also preparing a flagship processor

Qualcomm’s competition isn’t resting either, and MediaTek is getting ready to release a flagship chip labeled Dimensity 9200+.

The announcement is scheduled for May 10, 2023 already. Let’s see which processor from the pair will be better in terms of performance.
