Sales of the global version of the latest Xiaomi Mi Band 4 are already in full swing, and the first YouTubers are even getting it for reviews. One of the first video reviews was released in the Xiaomi community by the very well-known Xiaomify.
So it gives us a look at the real features of the 4 generation smart fitness band from Xiaomi. So what is the Mi Band 4 really like?

The biggest upgrade so far
The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is, so far, the biggest upgrade in the Mi Band lineup. And that’s thanks to the 0.95″ colored AMOLED display with a resolution of 240 x 120 px. Compared to Mi Band 3, the display is 39.9% larger and also much brighter. The maximum brightness reaches up to 400 nits. This level, even according to the tester, is enough for good visibility in direct sunlight.
The battery also changed significantly, growing from 110 mAh in Mi Band 3 to 135 mAh. And thanks to the bigger battery, the Mi Band 4’s battery life is still great – 20 days. The previous generation of the band boasts the same battery life.
The dimensions and weight of both generations are very similar, but what changed noticeably is the charger. For Mi Band 4 it’s some kind of cradle where you insert the main part with the display. The charging pins were moved from the side to the bottom.
New feature
Another major change in Mi Band 4 is the new 6-axis motion sensor, which allows recording multiple types of sports activities. In addition to swimming, supported activities include running, cycling, and fast walking. App notifications, a calendar, and a pedometer are also included.
A new feature is remote music control on the connected smartphone. You can switch tracks, pause, and start them again, and you can also control the volume. Of course, there’s also sleep tracking, with results displayed clearly in the app.
A lot of watch faces and swimming tracking
Xiaomi Mi Band 4 works with the Mi Fit app, just like the previous band generations. However, Mi Band 4 offers a wide range of watch faces—up to 77, according to the manufacturer. Xiaomi also keeps adding new watch faces, so the selection will be even bigger.
In his video, Xiaomify also didn’t forget to test one of the newest features that arrived in Mi Band 4 – swim tracking. He tested the recording at a distance of 500 meters and, according to him, the band provides very relevant data.
Is Mi Band 4 a good upgrade?
Finally, the most important part – the verdict. So what is Mi Band 4 really like, and is it worth upgrading from previous generations? Definitely yes. New features and options bring the qualities of a previously inexpensive fitness band closer to the functionality of much more expensive smartwatches.
Perhaps the biggest improvement is the display and its maximum brightness—perfect visibility. Display visibility was heavily criticized on Mi Band 3. Expanded sports activity monitoring features also contribute to the positive evaluation of this band.
