A few days ago, we were introduced to the latest pieces from the K30 series by Redmi. The phones got the kind of specs you’d expect from killer flagship models. The best processor, excellent cameras, and a beautiful FullScreen display.

HDR 10+, AMOLED, 1 200 nits, blue light filter—everything about it sounds fantastic. The display is truly a gem of the smartphone, but it’s missing one important thing. The maximum refresh rate has capped out at 60 Hz, which may not be enough for someone even today. But is that really the case?

They got as much as 80 Hz out of it

Xiaomi and Redmi’s fan base is truly huge and highly inventive. They showed off their skills in full glory by modifying the display of the Redmi K30 Pro phone.

The official maximum display refresh rate set by the manufacturer is 60 Hz. Later, the brand leadership explained why they didn’t go for a higher value. With a lower refresh rate, the battery lasts much longer—and in the smartphone planning era, the 90 Hz feature wasn’t as widely adopted.

It didn’t leave new smartphone fans indifferent, so they decided to increase the refresh rate. After rooting the phone and uploading a modified firmware, they successfully boosted the value to 80 Hz.

We can’t deny that the higher refresh rate is truly incomparable to the original 60, and the smartphone instantly gets a whole new feel. That said, it’s worth noting that unofficially increasing the refresh rate can damage the phone’s display. Also, with this modification you automatically lose any warranty, and you’ll be fully responsible for all damages.

There’s no doubt this is a huge achievement by the fans, but it can also bring a number of problems. This is definitely not an official feature, and it’s unlikely we’ll ever see it in any update. It’s simply pointing out that the display can handle more than 60 Hz.
