The Chinese company Redmi has recently unveiled its historically first gaming smartphone, the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. It’s available only in its home market, China. In the internal MIUI code, there’s a hint that this phone will be sold in the Indian market under the name POCO F3 GT.
Redmi or POCO?
Xiaomi is known for the fact that their models—plus models from their subsidiary companies, Redmi and POCO—are called differently in different markets. Most often, Xiaomi makes a smartphone for the Chinese market, and then it shows up in India and Europe under a different name. That can slightly confuse customers when ordering, but it’s not the first time.
This is also the case with the recently announced Redmi K40 Gaming Edition smartphone. The well-known leaker Kacper Skrzypek shared on his Twitter account that a model with the code name M2104I10I appeared in the internal MIUI overlay code—one that could refer to the POCO F3 GT model.
This code name is exactly the same as the one for the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition, with the ending letter “I” indicating the model for the Indian market. With this move, the POCO F3 GT would become the global version of the Redmi model that everyone is expecting.

The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition was unveiled on April 27, and you can check its full specifications in our detailed article. Let’s also not forget that in China, this smartphone starts selling at €255—that’s an excellent price for a phone with such specs.
You can expect that the smartphone won’t be available only in the Indian market, but that we might also see it here in Europe, just like the entire Redmi K40 series. Once that happens, we’ll let you know—so keep an eye on our website.
