Even in 2020, the Redmi brand has taken a very progressive direction and keeps releasing new and new products. Not long ago, they officially unveiled the Redmi 10X and Redmi X10 Pro smartphones, which we can rightfully call kings of the mid-range.

In this class, they deliver downright unbelievable performance for a price that’s hard to believe.

A new Redmi X product lineup

Smartphones for the brand open a completely new product line. The company defines this new series as devices that capture the latest technological trends and come with powerful processors that reach flagship-level performance.

At the same time, they keep an exceptionally affordable price tag, which is typical for the Redmi brand. The new product line will add to the previous ones with labels like “K”, “Note”, and the cheapest Redmi line.

So what does the freshly unveiled new model bring?

The X series is all about performance

Performance, performance, and more performance. That’s how the new Redmi X smartphone series could be defined. The 10X model comes with the latest MediaTek Dimensity 820 processor, and it’s also the very first affordable smartphone to use this chipset.

MediaTek Dimensity 820 is built with the mission to deliver solid performance in the mid-range. It’s a 5G chipset manufactured using a 7 nm process, with a total of 8 cores split into two clusters—4 x Cortex-A76 with a clock of 2.6 Hz and 4 x Cortex-A55 with a clock of 2 GHz.

Along with the processor comes a Mali-G57 graphics unit with up to five cores. The GPU uses the same Valhall architecture as in the flagship Dimensity 1000+ CPU, and it should provide enough gaming performance.

The processor is also packed with various AI-based optimizations that help push performance even further. If we were to put it into numbers, Redmi published an official poster boasting results of as much as 415,672 points from the well-known AnTuTu Benchmark.

Optimization for gaming

There’s also optimization for the best possible gaming experience. The smartphone includes special modes like MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 and Mi Game Turbo 2.0, which enhance overall gaming performance.

On top of that, the new model’s display has a 180 Hz sampling rate, meaning touches in games will feel faster and more precise. Of course, it also features efficient liquid cooling, ensuring stable performance over a longer period.

For the hardware, Redmi 10X also received UFS 2.1 internal storage with Write Turbo, delivering a write speed of 489 MB/s. For the mid-range, that’s a very solid specification. The RAM is LPDDR4x.

4520 mAh battery and dual 5G

Besides high performance, Redmi 10X also comes with a decent battery capacity. It’s rated at 4520 mAh and is designed to provide enough power for up to 10.8 hours of uninterrupted gaming.

In today’s world, fast charging is basically a standard, and the 10X model supports charging with a 22.5 W power output. The better Redmi 10X Pro version gets faster 33 W charging. It takes just 30 minutes to charge up to 58%.

2020 is undoubtedly the year of 5G smartphones, at least in China, where 5G networks are already a common thing. Redmi 10X is the world’s first smartphone with dual 5G standby technology, which intelligently switches between two SIM cards for a more stable connection on trains, elevators, or underground parking lots.

The technology is supported by up to 11 antennas placed throughout the smartphone’s build, creating 43 signal points.

No standout design

Redmi didn’t put much focus on the design when presenting it. After all, it’s a normally looking smartphone that doesn’t include any special feature. The build consists of a pair of glass panels protected by durable Gorilla Glass 5.

The front includes thin bezels, and this time the manufacturer chose a small teardrop notch where it placed the front camera. The back features a prominent module with four cameras.

The dimensions of the smartphone are 164.16 x 75.75 x 8.99 mm, and the weight is 205 grams, or 208 grams for the Pro model. Redmi 10X will be available in four color variants – purple, blue, gold, and white.

A display with high-end specs

A separate chapter of the new smartphone is the display. This time, Redmi really put effort into it and equipped their new model with a very high-quality AMOLED panel made by the well-known Samsung.

6.57″ AMOLED display on the Redmi 10X boasts specs like a maximum brightness up to 800 nits, a resolution of 2400 x 1800 px, an aspect ratio of 20:9, or a high contrast ratio of 4 300 000 : 1.

The screen also received HDR10+ certification, DC Dimming technology for eye protection, and an optical fingerprint sensor. Since it’s an AMOLED panel, support for the Always-on display feature is also included, with the option to customize the design of the screen itself.

48 MPx, OIS, and 30x zoom

Yes, these are really the specs of a smartphone that belongs to the mid-range. Specifically, the Redmi 10X Pro model got a main 48 MPx camera with a 1/2″ sensor size, an 8 MPx wide-angle sensor with a 119° field of view, and a 5 MPx macro sensor.

The quad setup is completed by a 8 MPx telephoto lens with 30-times zoom and optical image stabilization. However, this sensor is exclusive to the Pro model only, and the standard model won’t get it.

The differences between the Pro and the regular version also apply to the front camera. While the better one from the pair comes with a 20 MPx camera, the standard Redmi 10X has a 16 MPx sensor for selfies.

MIUI 12, NFC, or IP53

The specs of both new phones also include other “goodies”, such as pre-installed MIUI 12 right out of the box, and for the Pro model, support for NFC and contactless payments. The standard model misses out on this feature.

Both smartphones also include IP53 water resistance along with P2i rating, a water-protected USB Type-C port, a 3,5 mm audio jack, an IR Blaster for controlling home appliances, and a 1217 channel linear speaker.

4 main differences: Redmi 10X vs Redmi 10X Pro

The phones differ in four main ways, which we describe in the table below. The rest of the specs are completely the same.

Redmi 10X Redmi 10X Pro
Rear camera No telephoto lens Telephoto lens with 30-times zoom and OIS
Front camera 16 MPx 20 MPx
NFC No Yes
Fast charging 22,5 W 33 W
