New year, new changes at Xiaomi. On the manufacturer’s official Chinese website, a teaser appeared for a new smartphone from the affordable Redmi series. From now on, though, it won’t just be a model lineup anymore, but a standalone brand.
Redmi as a subsidiary company of Xiaomi
Redmi is now a subsidiary company of Xiaomi, just like Honor for Huawei or Nubia for ZTE. Of course, Redmi will still share Xiaomi’s philosophy and manufacturing, but it will operate independently. Besides this news, they also announced the launch of a new smartphone.
Up to a 48 MPx camera
On 10 January, the new Redmi 7 will be presented. The teaser for the launch suggests one of its key features: a massive 48 MPx camera. We’ve already heard about this in connection with Xiaomi, when Xiaomi co-founder, Bin Lin, shared a photo of an unknown device, pointing to a 48 MPx rear camera.
The unveiling of the news will take place in Beijing at 14:00 local time. For us, it will happen at 7:00 AM. Xiaomi has been doing a great job keeping the specs of the new Redmi 7 under wraps, as so far we haven’t seen any other leak about this smartphone. So we’ll have to wait for the full details.
