The most loyal fans of mobile tech, especially the Chinese giant, surely noticed that Xiaomi was hesitant to implement the official IP certification in order to offer a better price. According to the latest statements, that should change.
Xiaomi and Redmi are also considering IP protection
Lu Weibing, the general manager of Redmi, just a few days ago shared two posts on Weibo that point to the implementation of IP protection for Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones.
Until recently, the company's stance was that IP certification unnecessarily increases the final price of smartphones and isn't that necessary. Not only at the fans' request, Lu decided to reconsider his position on this.
In his posts, he said that new Redmi smartphones should come with a protection rating of IP68. We’re sure that more than one fan, including us, was really happy to hear this news.

For quite some time now, Xiaomi has been criticized by fans specifically for the lack of water resistance—at least in its flagships. Enhanced durability gives users a greater sense of security, but of course it also comes with higher costs, even just for the certification itself.
For now, we don’t know whether the new smartphone with an upgraded IP68 rating will be the successor in the form of Redmi K40, or whether it will be an entirely different model. Either way, compared to the Redmi K30 Pro with IP53, this is a very solid upgrade.

IP68 protection would allow the user to use a smartphone, for example, in a pool, and at the same time, protection from spilled liquids would be much, much better. In every direction, this is a very welcome upgrade.
