Besides the new Redmi K50 Pro model, at today’s Chinese press conference we also got the basic flagship model marked Redmi K50. This model will also offer a quality 2K AMOLED display and, for the first time, a new processor MediaTek Dimensity 8100.

Redmi K50: 2K AMOLED display and MediaTek Dimensity 8100

The construction of the base model Redmi K50 is very similar to its more expensive “Pro” sibling. And the equipment is similar too: up front you’ll find the same 2K AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.67″ and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, from Samsung. The display delivers a final sharpness of 526 ppi, supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.

The change happens in the processor. In this case, the premium debut model is MediaTek Dimensity 8100, which is made to order for the Redmi brand. It’s a processor manufactured using a 5 nm production process, and since the original Dimensity 8000 model didn’t support 2K screens, the Redmi brand requested its adjustment. And it’s thanks to this modification that the new Dimensity 8100 model was created, with 5G connectivity support.

On the back of this smartphone, there’s also a round camera module. Just like the “Pro” model, it offers a 108 MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, complemented by an ultra-wide-angle sensor and a macro camera. The front camera is housed in a cutout in the display.

As for connectivity, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi 6 technology, but also Bluetooth in version 5.3. From the factory, it also includes the latest version of the MIUI 13 interface. The smartphone even has an even larger 5500 mAh battery, however with support for slightly slower but still powerful 67 W wired charging via a universal USB Type-C connector.

Price and availability of the new smartphone

The base flagship model Redmi K50 will be sold exclusively in the Chinese market for now. Pre-orders start today, and the launch of sales on the local market is scheduled for March 22, 2022. We currently don’t have any further information about global availability under the Redmi or POCO brands. These are the selling prices of the individual Chinese configurations:
