REDMI K80 and K80 Pro are new Chinese flagships: First-ever massive 6650 mAh battery and amazing prices (for China)!

The sub-brand REDMI comes with a slight change in naming, but what doesn’t change is the production of powerful flagship smartphones. REDMI K80 and REDMI K80 Pro.

REDMI K80: A subtle 2K display and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Xiaomi isn’t hesitating and is bringing the latest technology even to the REDMI models. The base version K80 offers a 6.67″ 2K display (3200 x 1440 pixels) with excellent brightness of 3200 nits and a high refresh rate up to 120 Hz. It also has a sampling rate of 480 Hz, as well as a 2560 Hz response in select gaming titles. Dolby Vision, HDR Vivid, HDR10+, and the certificate Qingshan Eye Protection 2.0. are also included.

Performance is handled by the new flagship chipset Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, built on TSMC’s 4 nm process. It has eight cores with a clock speed of 3.3 GHz, plus an Adreno 750 graphics chip. It also features Qualcomm’s AI Engine for better multitasking, along with a dual 3D cooling system for precise heat dissipation. There’s also bonus water and dust resistance with an IP68 certification.

The operating system is HyperOS 2, also paired with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1 TB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. The main camera has 50 MP (Light Fusion 800) with an f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. It’s complemented by an 8 MP ultra-wide lens with a 120° field of view, plus a 2 MP macro sensor. The front camera is 20 MP.

Other features include an in-display infrared fingerprint sensor, an infrared sensor, NFC for payments, and stereo speakers. The integrated REDMI K80 battery offers up to 6550 mAh!

This is Xiaomi’s largest smartphone battery so far, supporting up to 90 W fast wired charging. There’s also a pair of Surge P3 chips for battery management and Surge G1 for safe charging.

REDMI K80 Pro: 3 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset!

The more expensive, better-equipped model REDMI K80 Pro comes with a flat OLED panel with a 6.67″ diagonal from TCL. It has an LTPS refresh rate of 120 Hz, up to 12-bit colors, a maximum resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, a peak brightness of 3200 nits, plus DC Dimming, very narrow bezels of just 1.9 mm, and protective glass Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 2.0.

The upgrade comes on the processor side, where the spotlight is the new 3 nm processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite. It delivers a 45% improvement in CPU performance and 44% in GPU performance compared to its predecessor. It also includes the D1 gaming chip, plus the Fury Engine 4.0 for dynamic frequency scaling.

In this case too, you can use LPDDR5X RAM memory and fast UFS 4.0 storage. The build is water- and dust-resistant – IP68, and the operating system is HyperOS 2.

The main camera Light Fusion 800 has 50 MP, along with optical image stabilization and a dynamic cinematic range of up to 13.2 EV for vivid, detailed shots.

It’s also supplemented with a 32 MP Samsung S5KKD1 ultra-wide processor chip with a 120° field of view. In addition, it features a 50 MP Samsung S5KJN5 periscope telephoto lens with 2,5x optical zoom and 20-x digital zoom. The front camera offers 20 MP.

The integrated battery in this model has a capacity of 6000 mAh. While it’s a lower capacity compared to the base model, there’s a reason for it.

On the back, there’s also a coil for wireless charging. And the smartphone supports up to 50 W fast wireless charging, as well as 120 W ultra-fast wired charging. The Surge security chips are also present, along with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Price and availability of the new REDMI smartphones

First of all, we need to emphasize that these are Chinese flagship smartphones. REDMI K80 starts selling in China in colors Obsidian Black, Snow White, Mountain Green, and Moonlight Blue, in the following configurations:

• 16 GB RAM + 256 GB from 2699 yuan (approx. 372 USD / 352 €)
