Welcome to Redmi Note 7: A new era of affordable Redmi smartphones is starting

10. January 2019 4 min read 0 comments

It was July 31, 2013, when the very first Xiaomi Redmi smartphone was born. A smartphone that completely redefined what a device under 130 € / 3300 kč can offer. In 2018, 278 million units of phones branded Redmi were sold worldwide. The enormous success of this model line led the manufacturer to the decision to make Redmi a separate brand.

High-quality and at the same time affordable smartphones from Xiaomi will, starting today, appear under their own Redmi brand, from January 10, 2019. The manufacturer sees the success of Redmi smartphones even in the global market and plans to continue producing global versions. And what’s more, to celebrate the creation of essentially a brand new brand, they unveiled an amazing piece – Redmi Note 7. All of this is offered by.

Glass and a small notch

Redmi Note 7 brings new features that we haven’t seen in the Redmi lineup so far. The first of these is a glass construction, which makes even an affordable smartphone look luxurious. Thanks to thin, just 1.95 mm bezels around the display, Xiaomi managed to fit a large 6.3-inch display into a body measuring 159.21 x 75.21 x 8.1 mm. The weight of the full-glass construction ended at 186 grams.

On a 6.3″ diagonal display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, the content is displayed in 2340 x 1080 pixel resolution. Compared to the older sibling, Redmi Note 6 Pro, the new model also brings a truly small notch. It houses a front 13 MPx camera with artificial intelligence. This refined notch already looks much better. The display is protected by durable Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Serious hardware

Under the glass construction, there’s a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, which we’ve only been able to see in more expensive Mi models until now. This is an eight-core chipset with a clock speed of 2.2 GHz, aided by the Adreno 512 graphics accelerator.

Redmi Note 7 will be available in the following memory configurations: 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage / 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage / 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. A long-lasting battery has also become an iconic feature of Redmi smartphones.

In this case, it’s provided by a solid 4000 mAh battery. FINALLY, we’ve gotten a reversible USB Type-C connector, which we’ve missed in the Redmi series until now. Along with it comes support for very fast charging Quick Charge 4. However, the package includes a standard 5V / 2A adapter, and to use this feature you’ll need to purchase the appropriate adapter.

Xiaomi hasn’t forgotten about a 3.5 mm audio jack either — it’s still here. There’s also an IR Blaster for controlling household appliances. These two elements are located on the top edge of the smartphone.

An unreal 48 MPx camera

Another surprising component in the new Redmi Note 7 is a whopping 48 MPx rear camera. Xiaomi used a Sony IMX586 sensor, which currently, as one of the few on the market, offers such resolution. The sensor features 1.6μm large pixels, a f/1.8 aperture as well as phase-detection PDAF autofocus. The secondary camera has a resolution of 5 MPx and is used to capture the bokeh effect.

With a 1/2″ size, it’s one of the largest smartphone sensors currently available. Thanks to this, it can capture not only more detail, but also let in more light — meaning sharp and brighter night photos. You can see the difference versus the competition for yourself.

Low price and a 18-month warranty

In the Redmi Note 7 lineup, you’ll also find a fingerprint sensor located on the back. There’s also a dual-band WiFi antenna with the standard 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth in version 5.0, GPS with AGPS and GLONASS, as well as DualSIM. The current Chinese version of Redmi Note 7 doesn’t support all 4G LTE frequencies, but we can also expect a global version with support for 800 MHz frequencies.

A pleasant surprise is the extended 18-month warranty, which isn’t common for Xiaomi smartphones. The standard warranty period is 12 months. Redmi Note 7 will be available for the first sale on 15. January at very attractive prices. The following prices apply to residents of China:

3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage version – €130 / 3300 kč
4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage version – €155 / 3900 kč
6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage version – €180 / 4600 kč
