Robot vacuums from Xiaomi have shot up in popularity, especially in Europe. The very attractive price-to-performance ratio has won over many satisfied customers. Xiaomi wants to keep this trend going and is now introducing the third generation of its best-selling vacuum.

Roborock T6 continues the successful Roborock 2 (S50) model, produced by the subsidiary of a Chinese tech giant. Welcome the new flagship among Xiaomi vacuums.

The new flagship among Xiaomi vacuums

Just like the Roborock 2, the new Roborock T6 will also join the lineup of Xiaomi’s robotic vacuum flagships. In terms of design, the vacuum hasn’t changed much. The only noticeable difference is the design of the buttons on the top. The elegant black color stands out, and the vacuum is currently available in this color only.

The suction power hasn’t changed compared to the previous model, and the vacuum sucks with a force of 2000 Pa. It also features a water tank and a mop, so in addition to vacuuming, it can also wash. It has the same 5200 mAh battery with a runtime of 2.5 hours of vacuuming, can handle 2 cm high obstacles, and includes 14 sensors to help it navigate.

On the construction and hardware side, you’ll find almost no differences compared to the Roborock 2. The biggest changes are in the software.

The biggest changes in the software

Roborock T6 still keeps its smart features—actually, it got even more. Room navigation is handled by the main laser distance sensor (LDS) on the top. Full control is done through the Mi Home app.

The LDS now has a smarter algorithm, and it also includes a new mapping system in version 3.0. After the first cleaning, the new system can not only remember the map of each room, but also identify individual rooms.

You can choose which room is the living room, bathroom, or kitchen and then perform further actions based on that. For example, you can exclude a specific zone from cleaning. During the next cleaning, the vacuum will know exactly where to go. It also monitors changes in the environment, such as moved furniture.

The intelligent dynamic route planning system has also been significantly improved. This feature is now called Rock Navigation. New algorithms calculate an even more efficient cleaning route based on distance sensors. Improvements were also applied when cleaning room corners.

Changes also came to the function zone cleaning. Now the user will be able to choose whether, in a specific zone, the vacuum will only vacuum or also mop. The option to select multiple zones at once has been added, where the vacuum can, for example, vacuum and also mop. A perfect feature if you have one room covered only with carpet – you can simply exclude it.

To use the virtual wall feature, a magnetic tape will no longer be needed. Blocking the vacuum’s access to a specific room can now be done directly on the map in the app – thanks to the new software virtual wall.

New changes were also made in cleaning scheduling. From now on, you can choose the day and time when the vacuum should clean a specific room. For example, set cleaning for the living room only every Wednesday at 8:00 AM. A complete novelty is voice control, which currently works only via the XiaoAI assistant. In the future, we may also see support for the Google Assistant.

Quieter, but still just as powerful

Among the features of the new Roborock T6, you’ll also find lower noise levels at the same suction power. The vacuum comes with a modified motor with high torque and low speed—so the manufacturer achieves less noise.

A modified acoustic damper combined with optimized motor gearing also contributed to the significant noise reduction. As a result, the noise level is 50% lower than on the previous model. The manufacturer says that now you’ll be able to read a book while vacuuming. That quiet is the new vacuum.

Changes in the “chassis”

Roborock T6 boosts overall cleaning efficiency with a modified main brush. Thanks to the new nylon material, it’s more flexible and more durable. It’s still easy to remove, and hair cleaning is just as fast.

The vacuum’s wheels are now made by Covestro, which also makes wheels for travel suitcases of the Xiaomi 90Fun brand. The chassis has received improved suspension for even easier navigation over 2 cm obstacles.

The charger design has also seen a smaller change: according to the manufacturer, it now fits modern homes better. It also includes the return-to-dock function when the battery capacity drops to 20%. Once the vacuum charges to 80%, it finishes the cleaning task.

Still an interesting price

The company also highlights the use of the highest-quality components from brands like LG, Kodenshi, Allwinner, and NIDEC, which are among the top in their respective fields. Even with high-quality components and a lot of new software improvements, Roborock T6 is being sold at an attractive price.

In its home market in China, it has already started being sold for 2799 yuan, which is roughly €370 / 9500 CZK. The previous generation is currently being sold at similar prices. It’s not yet known whether the company will also launch an international version for global markets, but given previous models, it could happen.
