Android TV is an operating system optimized for TVs and remote control use. It’s available on different smart TVs, TV Sticks or TV Boxes, and even Chinese Xiaomi uses it in its products.

But what if the system response is poor and the apps are slow? We have a few tips and tricks for you in today’s guide.
This is how you speed up the Android TV operating system
A lot of the TVs available on the market today, as well as various TV boxes, are still sold with 1 GB, or 2 GB of RAM. These are really low figures that, together with a less powerful processor, usually lead to slowdown or gradually clogging up memory + storage.

The solution is similar to Android smartphones—just go into the settings. Open the “Settings” app and enable developer mode (angl. “Developer Mode”). You only need to click the system build with the remote several times, and the developer options will appear in the system.
Developer options unlock new features
These options unlock new features you can use to speed up your TV. Specifically, it’s the animation settings that you can shorten to 0,5x or even turn off completely, just like on an Android smartphone.
Another useful setting is limiting the number of tasks that your TV or a TV Box with less RAM lets run in the background. So instead of five tasks, you can choose, for example, two—this will speed up the device, and it will also close unnecessary apps running in the background.
The developer options also include another setting that speeds up your TV. Specifically, it’s GPU rendering, which is most likely disabled by default on your device.
Alternative launcher and disabling “bloatware” apps
You can also eliminate the recommendations, or content suggestions, that your Android TV system offers you. If you can’t find a separate app for content suggestions in the settings, go to Settings, then Apps, then System apps, and here select “Android TV Home”. In this app, choose “Uninstall all updates”. You can do the same by going to the Play Store and turning off “Auto-updates”.
In the Play Store you’ll find plenty of apps optimized for TV. You’ll also find alternative launchers, such as FLauncher, which makes your home screen easier. If you don’t like some built-in apps that you can’t uninstall, you can stop the app in the app’s settings (choose “Force stop”) and you can also uninstall its updates.
In the end, all these settings should help your device “breathe” a bit better and significantly improve your overall experience with Android TV. Will you try them too?
