Just a few days ago, we witnessed the unveiling of a new flagship smartphone lineup from Xiaomi. On the home market, two smartphones with individual names Xiaomi Mi 10 and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro.

And although they offer top-tier flagship specs, the question is what will happen to the successor of the compact version, last year marked as Mi 9 SE.

In 2020, we won’t get it

The head of Xiaomi’s software department revealed that even despite expectations, we will probably not see a refresh of the compact model Xiaomi Mi 9 SE. in 2020. Despite the popularity of this model, low sales, and the arrival of 5G technologies, the company’s stance toward this category could have changed.

Moreover, according to the engineer, the arrival of 5G didn’t bring a favorable development for these compact devices. The new technology requires much larger batteries due to high energy consumption, which, of course, doesn’t match the smaller dimensions of the device body itself.

A popular predecessor labeled Xiaomi Mi 9 SE.

To this controversy, Wang Teng Thomas, Xiaomi’s product manager, also added his take. In his statement, he said it’s becoming increasingly difficult to design and manufacture high-end devices without exceeding certain size limits. And size is a key factor in producing a compact device.
