Cameras on Xiaomi 12 Pro have passed the well-known DxOMark test. The result is rather disappointing

The popular DxOMark service published on its website the results of detailed testing of the flagship smartphone Xiaomi 12 Pro. And that’s how we know the pros and cons of its camera performance, but also its mobile audio.

Xiaomi 12 Pro: The camera performance also has negatives

Several reviews of the Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphone highlighted the precise AMOLED display and the high performance of this smartphone. However, among the trade-offs, we can repeatedly find features related to mobile photography. The DxOMark ranking may also bring more clarity to this issue. After all, the 12 Pro model didn’t even make it into the TOP 10 of the mobile photography ranking.

The current flagship, on paper, offers a very interesting camera setup. The smartphone features three 50 MPx sensors. These include the main camera (1/1.28″, f/1.9, PDAF, OIS), an ultra-wide-angle sensor (f/2.2), and also a telephoto lens (f/1.9). When it comes to video recording, 8K resolution is available (24 fps) or 4K resolution (60 fps).

Let’s start with the positives, though—among the pros of this device we can count good detail in photos in most scenarios. The advantage is also fast and stable autofocus, very good exposure in low light, and generally a fairly low level of digital noise. Good news is also the wide dynamic range in night shots.

As for the downsides, testing revealed the presence of so-called “ghosts” and noise in high-contrast scenes. The device also has a slightly limited depth of field, and in very poor lighting conditions it slowly loses detail. The same issue occurred with the telephoto lens—specifically in photos at medium and long distances. In addition, the dynamic range and bokeh didn’t match when comparing the image shown in the viewfinder to the final photograph.

That’s not enough for the top ten

Video recording demonstrated good detail and exposure in bright lighting conditions, accurate autofocus, and effective image stabilization. However, even here, shortcomings were noted—such as unstable white balance, and in places parts of the shots were underexposed, plus an orange cast in low light.

The test results are 131 points in the mobile photography rating of the DxOMark ranking. This was enough for 14th place, which is also a shared position with other devices such as for example Vivo X70 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The top spot is currently held by the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate smartphone, with up to 146 points. In the mobile audio testing, Xiaomi 12 Pro scored a total of 70 points, which is enough for the ongoing 31st place in the ranking.
