Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has introduced its premium flagship model Xiaomi 12S Ultra with a solid battery, along with new chips Surge G1 and P1. And it’s exactly these chips that are shocking the first users with improved battery endurance on a single charge.
Xiaomi 12S Ultra: First users were surprised by battery endurance on a single charge
At the beginning of this month, we finally got the official unveiling of the flagship Xiaomi 12S series. The star of this lineup is also the long-awaited smartphone Xiaomi 12S Ultra, with a focus on mobile photography. For mobile photography, Xiaomi partnered with the German manufacturer Leica—both for optical lens hardware and software solutions.
Besides the outstanding camera quality, this device will also impress with long battery life on a single charge. Even the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, has praised it. The brand’s CEO in his post replied to some users who, on social media, reported very good battery endurance on their Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
According to Lei Jun, the “battery life of Xiaomi 12S Ultra is so strong, and Xiaomi chips developed in-house also contribute to it: Xiaomi Pengpai P1 and Xiaomi Pengpai G1 (also known as Surge P1 and Surge G1, ed. note).”
The company decided to apply the BMS concept from electric vehicles to smartphones, creating a battery-management system for these devices. It has three main advantages: specifically, the ability to accurately predict charging and battery endurance, improve safety and battery health, and also extend the lifespan of the battery itself.
Surge G1 and Surge P1 processors are the key to “Ultra” battery endurance
Xiaomi has already revealed that the pair of new processors is coming as part of a new battery endurance management system called “Xiaomi Surging Battery Management System”. The Surge G1 chip is responsible for managing the battery, while Surge P1 handles, among other things, fast charging for the smartphone. These chips effectively extend battery life, and also improve charging efficiency.
When we look at the construction quality of the battery for Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the smartphone uses the second generation of a silicon-oxygen anode battery with a capacity of 4860 mAh and battery life of 1.24 days (DOU). It’s also worth noting that the smartphone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. chip. It’s already showing its performance and efficiency in the first gaming tests.
It’s an advanced version that uses a 4 nm manufacturing process from TSMC (the predecessor used Samsung’s manufacturing process). This processor has 30% higher energy efficiency, and it’s paired with an upgraded cooling system featuring a dedicated cooling pump.
