This is what happened to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in an extreme durability test by a well-known YouTuber

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra smartphone is gradually making its way among reviewers, and there are also people who test its durability. One such test is already behind it, and the results are more than good.

YouTuber JerryRigEverything didn’t spare it—he truly tested its durability. The tests mainly involved the camera module, which is really gigantic. But we know why: it hides a large 1-inch sensor, Sony IMX989.

A metal frame and the best protective glass on the market

The good news is that the package also includes a basic rubber protective case. However, it only goes around the entire camera module and doesn’t protect it directly. Even the cover doesn’t fully enclose it because a lot of the module actually sticks out.

Before the test, there was suspicion that the new rear camera module could be a weak spot compared to the previous generation, but the real tests showed the opposite.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra has a premium back design with a silicone leather finish and a metal frame that delivers high durability. The frame is interrupted by plastic only on the top side, where the antennas are probably located.

So in the knife test, it wasn’t really a problem to damage it. Still, the smartphone’s display currently has the best glass in the form of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and it can resist scratches really successfully.

You won’t easily break the Xiaomi 12S Ultra

Overall, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra stayed fully functional during all the tests and passed successfully. In the bend tests, it didn’t perform any worse than some premium Android smartphones. The metal frame holds together excellently; it only loosened at the transition point between the camera module and the rest of the body, where there’s again a plastic divider for the antenna.

So it’s no surprise that when the display is heated with a lighter, there are burnt pixels left on the screen. But at the end of the video, JerryRigEverything praised Xiaomi for the excellent job it did in terms of build quality—which is exactly what you’d expect from a premium smartphone in this price category.

We’re already testing the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in the editorial office, but we definitely won’t put our unit through such an extreme test. From the first impressions, we can also confirm the fantastic build quality and the premium “feeling” that practically radiates from the smartphone. We also appreciate the touch-friendly—but still fake—leather on the back. We’ll bring you a detailed review in a few days.

What’s your take on the durability of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra smartphone? Are you more for protection in the form of tempered glass and a case, or do you let the phone’s clean design stand out?
