The long-awaited premium flagship smartphone Xiaomi 14 Ultra could also come with a unique in-display camera feature. We’ve already seen this feature in the past—for example with Xiaomi MIX 4, but its results didn’t meet with much understanding. In this case, however, it could be a new generation of this technology.
Xiaomi 14 Ultra: Another in-display camera?
Less than 3 months remain until the launch of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra smartphone, and new leaks are already starting to appear. Just recently, a new model with the code name “Xiaomi Suiren” was spotted on Geekbench. However, no one has revealed which smartphone this code name belongs to.
But now the GSMChina.com website is reporting with the help of the necessary information. Mi Code revealed that this exact designation should belong to the premium Xiaomi 14 Ultra device, which is expected to hit the market in as many as two different versions.
The predecessor of Xiaomi 13 Ultra already brought significant upgrades in terms of mobile photography. And the successor to this model, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, wants to continue in that direction—along with a feature that may surprise some users. It’s a camera hidden under the display. The improvement, however, doesn’t relate to the MIX series, whose new model MIX 5 will be unveiled only in year 2025.
What’s hiding behind the code name?
First of all, we have to emphasize that the original code names Xiaomi 14 Ultra have not changed. The smartphone will continue to have the code name „aurora“. In addition, a new code name has also appeared. This code name is „aurorapro“. One of the pair will offer an under-display camera, while the other, likely via the „pro“ naming, will offer a standard front camera.
And the internal code name “Xiaomi Suiren” that appeared in Mi Code actually belongs to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra model with a camera under the screen. The name “Suiren” isn’t found on Xiaomi’s servers. That means the code name “Xiaomi Suiren” actually represents the same device as “aurorapro”.
The latest internal software build of HyperOS for Xiaomi 14 Ultra is labeled 24.1.12. It’s a so-called “daily build” and suggests the smartphone has been tested internally. Right after the official presentation, it should come with the operating system in the Android 14 version. The smartphone is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and excellent photographic results. Its unveiling is expected in April 2024, alongside the new Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro tablet.
Finally, a quick look back at the history of code names. “Suiren” was the inventor of fire in ancient China and was recognized as the so-called “ancestor of fire”. And it was his descendants who had the names “fuxi” and “nuwa”. Coincidentally, these are also the code names for the previous flagship smartphones Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro.
