It has already happened: Xiaomi surpasses Apple for the first time and in Europe becomes 2. the largest smartphone manufacturer!

The Chinese company Xiaomi has reason to celebrate. In the European market, it became 2. the largest smartphone manufacturer, dethroning even the Californian giant Apple, thanks to growth of up to 85 %.

For the first time in history

Xiaomi hasn’t stopped growing in recent years. According to the latest Canalys study for the first quarter of 2021, Xiaomi managed to achieve the position of the second-largest smartphone manufacturer in Europe thanks to growth of 85 %. This way, Xiaomi has already managed to increase its market share to 23 % this year.

With a 35-percent market share, the top spot is held by South Korea’s Samsung, which improved by 21 % year-on-year. Slower growth, specifically 22 %, was recorded by Apple, which dropped to third place with a 19 % share of the European market.

In fourth place is Oppo, whose growth is an incredible 153 %. With its 4 % market share, however, Apple is already losing ground significantly. The top five is rounded out by China’s Huawei, which again slid by as much as 81 % and with a 3 % share is just below Oppo.

For example, in Spain, the Xiaomi brand maintains the lead in smartphone sales. Next come Samsung, Apple, Oppo, and Huawei.

Huawei keeps sliding down

Huawei continues to suffer from the fact that it can’t add Google services to its smartphones, which discourages many customers from buying. Let’s see whether their situation improves with the deployment of the new operating system Harmony OS, which is expected to debut this year.

In short: what we already saw coming has come true. Xiaomi has managed to overtake Apple in Europe. If this keeps going, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Xiaomi steals Samsung’s first place during this year. If that happens, we’ll let you know right away.

Xiaomi has always managed to bring smartphones with a great price / performance ratio. Considering it produced its first smartphone as late as in 2011, this growth over such a short period of time is incredible.
