Xiaomi introduces a new battery-powered motor that turns your curtains into smart curtains

Do you love smart home products? Then we have good news for you. Our favorite Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has officially unveiled a new electric battery-powered motor. Once connected, it can create, for example, smart curtains that automatically open and close via your smartphone.

New battery-powered motor from Xiaomi

The product is hitting the market under the official name Xiaomi Mijia Smart Curtain Battery Edition. The manufacturer also offers a version for the electrical mains in its lineup, but here we’ll focus on the upgraded model with an integrated battery.

Thanks to its long battery life on a single charge, you can create smart curtains in your bedroom or living room. You’ll be able to control these curtains afterward via your smartphone or voice commands. However, it also includes a lock to prevent the curtains from moving.

In terms of design, it follows a traditional minimalist look, with a matte white finish. Besides the motor itself, there’s also a metal rail made of stainless steel (304-type steel). It’s up to 2.4 millimeters thick and is used to mount the curtains.

Low noise, 6200 mAh battery, and Wi-Fi connection

If we look at the technical equipment of this device, it comes with a powerful electric motor that can pull or draw curtains weighing up to 50 kilograms. Its operation is not limited by battery power, and it even has very low noise levels – just 30 decibels. Curtain movement in the room will be almost unnoticeable, so you won’t disturb, for example, your guests.

It also includes smart features like Wi-Fi connectivity. With Wi-Fi technology, you can pair this product with the well-known mobile app Xiaomi Home. Then you can control the product’s functions directly from your smartphone.

Voice command support is also included (in Chinese, with the XiaoAI voice assistant), and you can set up automation rules with other smart products.

In addition, the product supports traditional manual control. The motor, alongside its standard operation, is sensitive to movement, so you just need to move the curtains by hand. This is a factory-included function, and you won’t harm the electric motor by doing so. If you don’t have a smartphone with you, Xiaomi also offers remote control buttons in its lineup that support this product, letting you control the curtains even from your bed.

Inside, this device has a battery with a total capacity of up to 6200 mAh. According to the manufacturer, it provides a battery life of up to six months per charge. When it’s drained, you can conveniently recharge the battery via a USB Type-C connector with support for fast charging up to 27 W via cable.

A full charge to maximum capacity will take approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes (if you use a slower charger, charging may extend to 6 hours and 45 minutes).

In addition to the electric motor itself, the package includes the curtain mounting rail, screws, and accessories for attaching the rail to the wall. There’s also a charger and a brief user manual.

Sale price and availability of the new product

The battery-powered motor labeled Xiaomi Mijia Smart Curtain Battery Edition is already being sold in China. Its official retail price is 999 Chinese yuan. At the current conversion rate, that’s about €135 / 156 USD. For now, we don’t have any additional information about global availability, but we expect at least the Chinese version to appear in listings from trusted international sellers.
