Premium Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro with better cameras has stood up to the iPhone 11 Pro in a photo and video showdown

Just a few days ago, we brought you a photographic comparison of Xiaomi’s new standard flagship version against the tough competitor iPhone 11 Pro. The Mi 10 model surprised, and the more expensive Pro version offers even better photographic equipment.

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro model was built to take on a large group of competitors, and the question remains whether it will defend its first place in the DxO Mark ranking—and later also.

Comparison with the iPhone or technology from Huawei

The photographic setup of the Mi 10 Pro starts with a main sensor with up to 108 MPx (f/1.7) with optical stabilization and laser autofocus. It’s complemented by an 8 MPx (f/2.0) telephoto lens. A 12 MPx portrait sensor (f/2.0) and also a wide-angle sensor up to 20 MPx (f/2.2).

Even here, support for up to 8K video (30 fps) is not missing—unfortunately, also without stabilization, and the front camera comes with 20 MPx (f/2.0) and HDR functionality as well. It’s placed in the display notch. With these sensors, the Mi 10 Pro model reached a completely first place in the DxOmark ranking, where it scored a record 124 points.

4K video is far too saturated

In terms of video recording, the quality—as well as the actual presentation of the color spectrum—is practically identical to the Mi 10 model and also the Mi Note 10. It’s down to the same sensor, processor, but also the supported resolution and software.

Honor V30, which by the way is third in the current DxOmark ranking, offers slightly less saturated colors. Stabilization and saturated colors in Xiaomi are most noticeable in 4K video.

A similar situation occurs with photography in daylight. Xiaomi smartphones deliver very similar results with enough depth of field and great, vibrant colors. In this case, Honor again chooses less saturated and possibly more realistic color representation.

50-times zoom on the Mi 10 Pro vs 10-times zoom on the iPhone 11 Pro

The zoom of the Mi 10 Pro model catches the eye—in part thanks to the high resolution, even six-times zoom still contains a fairly high-quality image for capturing a sharp photo. The Mi 10 Pro also impresses with an amazing 50-times zoom. The reality? Practically everything up to around ten-times zoom keeps a certain amount of usable detail.

The front camera “at all costs” brightens the face, which often leads to an overexposed background.

On Xiaomi, the front camera detects the position of the face and accordingly adjusts the necessary light. As soon as the subject turns, the light changes, and once the face is back in the frame, the light adjusts again. Surprisingly well, the Mi 10 Pro model also performed with macro photography, which looked truly professional.

iPhone 11 Pro on the other hand showed its strengths in depth of field and also in night photos, where it didn’t fall behind even with Huawei technology. The price difference is especially noticeable in this category.
