11. August 2020 will go down in history for the company Xiaomi as a very significant day. The manufacturer celebrates its tenth anniversary and brings an ultra-premium smartphone called Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra.

Renowned camera test lab DxOMark has published its evaluation of this still-hot new release, and the results are fantastic. You can find the complete specs and prices of the Mi 10 Ultra smartphone in our launch article.

The new world king of mobile photography

Yes, that’s exactly how Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra ended up in the DxOMark test. With a final score of 130 points, it surpassed the former king, Huawei P40 Pro.

That’s how Xiaomi not only created its own, but also the best camera in the world inside a mobile smartphone.

These are the camera specs:

  • Main sensor: 48 MPx 1/1,32-inch Quad-Bayer sensor, 25 mm lens with f/1.85 aperture, PDAF and OIS
  • Telephoto lens 1: 12 MPx 1/2,56-inch sensor, 50 mm (2x optical) lens with f/2 aperture, Dual-Pixel AF
  • Telephoto lens 2: Periscope, 48 MPx 1/2-inch Quad Bayer sensor, 120 mm equivalent (5x optical) lens with f/4,1, PDAF and OIS
  • Ultrawide: 20 MPx 1/2,8-inch sensor, 12 mm lens with f/2,2, PDAF
  • Dual-LED flash, multispectral color temperature sensor
  • Video: 8K 4320p at 30fps, 4K 2160p at 30/60 fps

What’s interesting is that Xiaomi used a 48 MPx Quad-Bayer sensor as the main sensor in the new Mi 10 Ultra, instead of the 108 MPx Samsung sensor from Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro.

The periscope telephoto lens is optically stabilized, and now comes with an amazing 120 mm focal length compared to the 94 mm sensor in the Pro version. With a size of 1/2″ versus 1/4,4″, the image sensor in the Ultra model is also significantly larger.

The combination of these very high-quality sensors has secured the final score of 130 points, which helped the smartphone reach 1421 place in the DxOMark ranking. Its photo test score of # points is also a new record.

DxOMark rated the camera quality like this:

“The exceptional photo score is based on outstanding performance of still images across all test areas. The camera captures key information most of the time, such as target exposure, color rendering, and white balance, and offers a very wide dynamic range that captures good details in both bright and dark parts of a scene. As a result, it’s ideal for shooting in challenging high-contrast conditions.”

The camera also delivers excellent results in low-light conditions. DxOMark gives as an example a portrait photo of a woman, where the image has pleasing skin tones, good face exposure, and well-managed noise.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra achieves the best results in video mode at 2160p resolution and 60fps frame rate. Overall, the device performs very well with these settings and reaches the highest video score so far, with a rating of 106. You can check out the sample video below.
