Here’s the reason why smartphones from the Xiaomi Mi 10T series have LCD, not AMOLED, displays

Just recently, we saw the launch of smartphones from the 10T series named Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite, Xiaomi Mi 10T, and 10T Pro. For some, during the presentation the fact that the phones come with an IPS LCD panel was quite surprising.

In the cheaper mid-range model, Mi 10T Lite, using an LCD display makes sense, since the manufacturer has other smartphones with AMOLED panels at a similar price level. But why was an LCD display implemented in these near-flagship devices instead of OLED?

At the request of users

We got the answer about the type of displays used thanks to an interview with the editor of the portal Techradar with Xiaomi’s company manager. He gives us a pretty clear answer with simple reasoning.

Before deciding to use an LCD technology display, several other steps were taken. One of them was a survey in which fans shared their opinion on a curved or flat display panel.

According to the manager, as many as 60 % of respondents prefer a flat display over a curved one. This result clearly indicated what type of display fans wanted. And since Xiaomi listens to ideas and customer requirements, it chose a straight display.

Now, about the display type used. Another survey showed that as many as 10 % of users are bothered by using OLED panel for too long. When working, they prefer an LCD display over an OLED display. Based on the information provided, OLED tires your eyes a lot.

Xiaomi also justifies the use of an LCD panel by saying it’s better to have a high-quality LCD display with excellent brightness, contrast, eye-friendly usage, and a better price. It’s better to have a top-tier IPS LCD panel than an average AMOLED.

Xiaomi even implemented a high refresh rate display of 144 Hz in its Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro smartphones. So using these smartphones will be very comfortable, smooth, and easy on the eyes.
