Xiaomi Mi 12 should get the fastest RAM memory ever used in a smartphone

The Xiaomi company is preparing its upcoming flagship Xiaomi Mi 12. This phone should even offer the fastest RAM memory ever used in a smartphone.

The mentioned information comes from current leaks published by the well-known Chinese social network Weibo, from the source IceUniverse. Xiaomi has been preparing its Mi 12 model for several months now, but we should only see its official presentation in 2022. However, this could also be an advantage given the crisis that has also hit the chips included in smartphones.

According to available information, the lineup should include new LPDDR5X RAM. This is next-generation RAM that the JEDEC association revealed just a few days ago. Specifically, it’s the JESD209-5B model, which improves the original LPDDR5 standard in terms of performance and application flexibility. The new standard will be called LPDDR5X.

LPDDR5X is a chip type designed to significantly increase the speed and efficiency of RAM memory for its various uses, including modern 5G smartphones and AI products (products that use artificial intelligence).

Here are the key specifications of the new chip:

• Speed boost up to 8533 Mbps (compared to 6400 Mbps on the predecessor)
• Improved and balanced TX / RX signal
• Reliability improvement through new adaptive refresh

A new information leak also revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 12 will be equipped with this new LPDDR5X RAM. It should be the fastest RAM memory ever used in a smartphone lineup. The flagship model should also offer an as-yet-unannounced high-performance processor, the Snapdragon 898 (which we learned about in leaks as Snapdragon 895).

From other leaks, we know that this processor should offer eight cores arranged as 1 + 3 + 2 + 2 with a clock speed of 3,09 GHz and a powerful X2 super-core. Even from a photographic standpoint, we can look forward to top-tier performance—if the presence of a large, up to 192 MPx main sensor for the rear camera is confirmed. Still, these are unofficial and unverified pieces of information.
