The Chinese giant Xiaomi, at its August 2023 conference, unveiled the anticipated foldable smartphone called Xiaomi MIX Fold 3. It brought the desired improvements, while Xiaomi also focused on high-quality cameras.

The downside of this version is the lack of B20 LTE band support, which in Slovakia and the Czech Republic means the phone won’t connect to the 4G LTE network outside the city. In the city, the signal will work without any issues; outside the city, it’ll work on 2G / 3G networks.
The phone also comes with the Chinese version of the MIUI software overlay, which in the base offers only Chinese and English. The seller, however, will install the complete Google services package, and it will be functional.

A beautiful and exceptionally thin design
Design-wise, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 differs only in small details, mainly on the back, with a new camera module. But what surprises most is the phone’s actual thickness, which Xiaomi managed to compress to 5,26 mm.
With it closed, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 is just 10,96 mm with no unnecessary gap between the folded halves, meaning this is the thinnest foldable smartphone in the world. The weight is also very pleasant at 262 grams.
3 different back cover finishes and a new hinge
The back cover can be either a special carbon-finish surface, frosted glass, or vegan leather, which we could also see for example on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The smartphone looks genuinely premium and elegant.
The new hinge is also made from new materials—specifically steel and carbon-ceramic. It consists of a three-part connecting rod and 198 rotating hinge components. This new design should provide up to 500,000 folds, which is roughly double what competitors offer.
With the new hinge, it can hold in almost any position—specifically from 45 to 135 degrees—finally catching up with the competition. The display angle is then matched by the Android and MIUI operating system interface too, thanks to the Hover mode feature.
2 OLED displays
On the body, you’ll find two displays again. The external one has a 6.56-inch diagonal, is an OLED panel with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. In peak mode, it reaches up to 2,600 nits, and it’s covered by durable Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 glass.
The internal display is slightly larger; it’s covered by UTG glass with a thickness of 0.03 mm. It has 8.03 inches, is also an OLED with 2K resolution, up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and it includes LTPO technology, which can lower the display refresh rate down to 1 Hz. Here, the maximum brightness is also up to 2,600 nits.
The highest possible performance and top-tier Leica cameras
Performance is handled by the current flagship on the market: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage with no support for microSD memory cards. Everything is powered by Android 13 with the MIUI 14 skin on top.
Xiaomi kept the best part on the back in the form of up to four cameras, with a Leica label next to them—so here too, these two companies worked together to deliver the best photos on a foldable device.
So it’s a classic (23 mm), ultra-wide (15 mm), and two telescopic telephoto lenses. One with 3.5x zoom (75 mm) and the other with 5x zoom (115 mm). Besides the ultra-wide sensor, all of them feature optical stabilization. Both displays have a cutout for 20-megapixel selfie cameras.
Stereo speakers and a 4 800 mAh battery
On the body of the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3, you’ll find two high-quality stereo speakers in total—so the sound will definitely be richer, something especially movie and series lovers will appreciate.
You’ll also like the dual battery with a capacity of 4800 mAh. You can charge it in two ways—via cable it supports up to 67 W, which gets you to 100% in 40 minutes, and wirelessly up to 50 watts, i.e., 100% in 55 minutes. For the battery, Xiaomi used as many as 3 Surge chips labeled G1 and P1, which improve overall battery life per charge.
Prices and availability
Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 has been presented so far only for the Chinese market, while global availability hasn’t been mentioned yet. As soon as we learn new information about global availability, we’ll definitely let you know in a new article. Prices for the Chinese market are as follows:
- Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 12 + 256 GB – 8 999 yuan (1 130 euros)
- Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 16 + 512 GB – 9 999 yuan (1 255 euros)
- Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 16 GB + 1 TB – 10 999 yuan (1 380 euros)
Keep in mind that at these prices, only residents of China will buy the MIX Fold 3. Even if it appeared in resellers’ listings, such as the well-known TradingShenzhen, the prices would definitely be higher.
